Trade ideas for 2019

Here we go again....Trade Renfroe because Jankowski will hit .210 with a home run and Cordero is a waste of a roster spot, Naylor is a .220 guy with 10 HR a year maybe, Reyes can hit but is very hard on the eyes playing defense and Renfroe will be an All Star....Yup that's the guy you trade.

Maybe if I'm Renfroe I want to get out of San Diego seeing as nobody except me wants him here to be a cornerstone of this team. I give him a ton of credit to be able to focus on playing and still hitting bombs and seems like he is recording assists from the outfield more than anybody on the roster not to mention the head games that Andy Green lays on him.

Renfroe deserves to play for a team that will pencil him in the line up everyday and be part of something special....you never hear him complain, he never seems to be injured, he runs the bases well and covers more ground than people realize in the outfield as evidence by him playing all three outfield positions.....if he really worked on it he could be a more than adequate center fielder, has a big arm, makes a whopping 500K a year and has been known to hit a few HR's.

There is nobody the Padres are looking at that project into what Renfroe already gives them.....just stupid

All I can say is thank you Hunter and best of luck to you with your new team....I'll miss watching you play....nobody else will but I will

Guessing Preller is probably on your side (barring that illusive overwhelming offer) ... Reyes is likely the guy he would prefer to trade. Yet, he probably will live with both into 2020 which will allow some time for separation of their skills. Don't honestly think either has that compelling trade value (by themselves).

IF a Syndergaard deal comes through with the Padres might Preller be willing to add to the deal (upgrade pieces) to get the NYM to include Nimmo (for most of the season out with a bulging disc in his neck). Yes, a risk add but he is a LHH OF with excellent OBP and decent power and although playing CF for the METS ... not a good CF and may be better in a corner. Risk reduced as a league minimum salary and 3 more control years

METS would get the needed defensive CF in Margot and what ever other parts that help the win in 2020 and rebuild some farm system.

Gamble by the Padres but if they really want a LHH OF with ML ready talent ... Nimmo may be the best available option fitting the cost / control profile and athletic enough to play all three OF spots.

Here's an example of what the market is like ...

Chicago acquired right-hander David Phelps from the Blue Jays in exchange for No. 29 prospect Thomas Hatch.

Why trade for damaged goods ?

Making a trade just to make a trade is a joke....Margot for a guy that will need neck surgery / fusion surgery

LOL

Who is suggesting "making a trade just to make a trade"?

Only you, it seems to me ... just sayin' ...

Nobody suggested a Margot for Nimmo deal ... the context was as part of a Syndergaard trade in which Margot is needed to get Syndergaard.

Not sounding promising for anyone dealing for Syndergaard:

====

The Padres made what they considered a fair offer on Syndergaard — one that involved Major League players — but still aren’t close to coming to terms with the Mets, reports SNY’s Andy Martino (via Twitter). The Padres are widely believed to be willing to deal from their plethora of outfielders — Manuel Margot, Hunter Renfroe and Franmil Reyes are among the available names.

(would guess Margot is a key demand ... they were after Buxton from MINN ... big need but what the rest of the demand is has to be the killer since any of those OF would not be a show stopper).

=======

“[W]hat they were asking it is not even worth a second conversation,” one executive tells Joel Sherman of the New York Post with regard to Syndergaard discussions with the Mets. “I’m not even sure it was worth the first. … [T]he Mets are not in the mode of meeting you in the middle of your offer and their ask, it is their ask or nothing.” As Sherman more broadly explores, Mets brass has no inclination to move toward anything but a win-now approach in 2020.

======

Ball is more in the METS ballpark to make a concession in their demand ... which by all accounts with every suitor is unrealistic.

Well @ 5:00 PM PST after loss to O's I agree with MLB Trade Rumors ranking of possible/most likely Pads trade targets in order:

  1.  Stammen
  2. Renfroe or Reyes
  3. Yates
  4. Also possible:  Margot, Myers, Erlin

Lots of caveats & changing by the minute scenarios.   Just don't see point in Stammen taking so many innings from out of it team 7 games < .500...  Open up the innings/opportunities & see who if anyone steps up.  Can always bring him back next yr as FA.

Seeing just a couple of good games from Myers makes me want a R or R trade more; they're just too much the same guy.  Don't HAVE to, but could start to unlock the OF if you did.  If you're going to deal with someone the Rays mega-deep farm a great place to go.

Yates value does definitely go up as Giles goes down or out with news of cortisone shot.  Leave that door open for someone to make a stupid offer!

I'd be surprised if Margot dealt now unless it was specifically for Thor.  We'll see if Mets capitulate or not.  Could see Preller lowballing for goofball Bauer, but REALLY don't want to give up too much for just 1+ year; worried Preller will over-value that comp pick/s he'll get when Bauer hits FA.

< 24 hrs to go....

Don’t think the Padres will take Bauer’s $20MM arbitration estimate for 2020. Did hear an unlikely scenario that Bauer goes to CINN (apparently the inquired) .... top CINN prospect Trammel (AA LHH CF) goes to SD ... SD sends a ML asset to Cleveland. Very very unlikely 3 way trade primarily on CINN’s side where they have to pay Bauer $20MM for one year and give up their top prospect. Sounds like writers just making up scenarios (just like we do).

I think Stammen stays ... not going to get much (if anything) for him and listening to Andy Green after the game the Padres seem to be very concerned about over extending the young arms (both SP and RP) and, if nothing else, Stammen goes out there and eats a ton of innings day after day and that is probably worth more than any non—return he would generate.

Sort of settling in at no significant deal for the Padres and maybe a lot fewer (if any) deals in all MLB than expected. Strange year.

If there is one, going with a Padre OF being dealt and would still have Margot as an option although most the ML rumors seem to focus on big hitters (Puig, Castellanos, etc.) Since Myers would fit in to replace any of the three ... all three may be in play depending on the return. Still a long shot and likely for a prospect.

Bauer to Reds......Padres involved.
