Since all indications the Padres don’t plan to be seller … can create all kinds of logic to justify that. Then the Padres put on today’s clunker losing to the Pirates and the emotional side takes over again and see being a seller being the smart move … if nothing else send a message to the rest of the team failure has consequences.

Three games vs Texas … not sure I am wanting the Padres to win and keep false hope alive or to lose and focus on 2024.

Syndergaard is just plain bad in 2023. Just proves we can’t always understand the rationale of teams making deals.

Speaking of Niebla, would you guys say that he deserves a lot of the credit for our pitchers’ success?

Add they they are in the midst of a race for the AL Central and even the Wild Card .. and only two months to months to fix him … seems like a move of desperation

Maybe Rosario could not get them a ML SP that would help but they do have a deep farm system … maybe their front office is not willing to move prospects.

Heard an interview where someone (forgot who) outlined all the data he maintained on each pitcher and how he used it to try to maximize the effectiveness … impressive. Also seems to be able to see how pitchers are off their game and has the ability to communicate the correction in a way the pitcher can accept … both in game and non-game situations.

It is clear that Melvin has full faith in Niebla and defers to him in who is ready (or not ready) to pitch on any day. Apparently Snell has a great relationship with Niebla … best since his TB coach. Pitchers just work well with him.

As a staff … Padres have been one of the best in MLB.

Also, the return the CWS got for Giolito might have tipped the scale from the long shot for the playoffs to the upside for the future on a trade return.
