The “dead arm period” should be upon us … varies by pitcher … and hopefully over by opening day for all.

The other performance wrinkle … some pitchers are still tying to work in some changes to their repertoire and are more experimenting than maximizing results right now.

No idea on Pagan but he had an interview a few days ago that he was trying to make some changes … maybe they just had him go out and work on that.

I recall reading somewhere that Pagan added a new pitch and was working on it. Split finger I believe.

Pagan better find at least one pitch he can use effectively!

He's been disappointing for most of his stay here.

Add him to the list of players who can be used to bring in an OF.

You know we're gonna see Pagan in the late innings too.

Ugh!

It all depends on what grade of gas gets poured on the fire….87 to 92

this could be ugly

Well … it is only ST … still ugly for Clevinger and Crismatt on the mound.

Abrams v Rodon … veteran very good LHP getting into regular season form … not good for Abrams being over matched with two Ks. As the ML quality pitching starts to round into shape, is exposing Abrams’ need for further development.

Side: as of now Kim has a better ST offense than Abrams. That is at least encouraging.

Gore has had two good innings … might come out for a 3rd.

Roster decisions are coming up soon and it appears that Abrams is struggling just a little bit in the last few starts.  The flashes of being major league ready are there, however, he needs ABs in the minors to further his growth.  Also, Kim has done very well this spring and has only struck out once in all his plate appearances - we're paying him the money so why not give him the opportunity?

Likewise, Campusano needs to go down to El Paso for everyday plate appearances.  Sometime within the first 2-3 months of the season, I expect both he and Abrams to be back or, in the case of Campusano, possibly included in a trade.

It will be interesting to see how the El Paso roster shakes out, since they start the season a week from today!

Just don’t know how the Padres plan to do the logistics of getting players to Round Rock on the 5th then back to EP with an off day the following Monday. At some point the players have to find places to live and move their stuff in.

Would think they would create the roster at the latest on next Saturday … break camp and have them head to El Paso on Sunday using Monday to get settled in a place to live … then take off to Round Rock on Tuesday a.m. I would begin that process at least a day earlier to give them another day to settle in EP.

With a week to go … surprised that they have not (or at least not announced) the releases from AAA/AA … specifically from the abundance of pitchers.

Surprised they let Gore pitch 4 innings today, especially after the home run he gave up in the 3rd.  However, he was effective outside of the HR, so it looks to me that he makes the opening day roster as a starter or "piggy-back" starter.  I'm very happy for him and thank you to Niebla, who is going to make a big difference with this staff.
