Spring Training 2021

Well the plot thickens:

1. Nola has a fractured finger (left hand) .. maybe be out until opening day / maybe longer. Probably a bigger issues with is hitting than catching. Window for Campusano?

2. Marcano getting a look in CF (has had a look in RF) ... so maybe a better shot at the roster than expected in 2021 ... and maybe concern with O’Grady, Mateo, and Kim for the opening day roster.

Looks like Kim needs to play in El Paso

We thinking one more solid outing by Morejon and he locks in as starter number 5?( with Lamet being 6)

Darvish is probably opening so Caratini goes from day 1. Then I'd like to see he and Campusano alternate until Nola comes back.

And it appears O'Grady is coming to life?

Should be a good battle between he and Mateo for that last spot. Less of course Kim really stinks it up and they both break camp to SD?

Since Lamet has yet to pitch in a game ... likely see Morejon in the initial rotation and Lamet on the IL in an effort to get his workload up before returning to the starting rotation.

Don’t see any of Gore ... Weathers ... or Baez breaking into the initial SP rotation.

I am sensing that Kim will get optioned (currently with a minor injury and struggling with the bat) .. plus they had Mateo at 2B today (had been primarily working in the OF) and maybe a ST phenomenon but he is looking better at the plate. INF/OF and out of options probably gets Mateo a roster slot.

If they go with 14 pitchers ... keeping Profar and Mateo who can cover both middle INF and OF makes the most sense.

Then for the remaining slot ... might see Marcano being the primary push on O’Grady if Kim is sent down. Marcano is getting a lot of OF time (LF-CF-RF) plus the INF and is hitting. I know he is very young but that does not stop Preller ... and with a short bench having three super utility guys (Profar, Mateo, and Marcano) gives a lot of flexibility.

O’Grady and Kim can be optioned and called back up if that initial mix is not working.

The last two weeks will be interesting.

Two weeks to go.

Darvish, Snell, Musgrove, Paddock, Morejon if a five man rotation.

But if Lament starts the season on the DL, is Gore and Weathers still battling it out for that spot?

Or do they just go a bullpen day if they need a sixth starter until Lament comes back at some point?

I would imagine that Weathers has the upper hand, he is on the 40 man. Wouldnt Gore dictate a 40 man move?

40-man is full, but a few spots at the bottom readily available for Gore.  Biggest thing with Gore is they really want him to work as a SP only, seem more willing to have Weathers come out of pen.
