San Diego Padres at Houston Astros: April 18-20

Through 4 starts Hart has extreme home/away and platoon splits. He's got a 1.64 ERA and has held batters to a .563 OPS at home. On the road he has a 15.88 ERA and opposing batters have a 1.235 OPS against him. Right handed batters have a 1.053 OPS against him while left handed batters have only managed a .143 OPS off of him.

I don't want to make too much of the home/away splits after 4 starts. However, I did also see that nearly 70% of the contact that he has given up has been in the air. That works at Petco with the marine layer. Other parks aren't as friendly to fly ball pitchers. He'll have to figure out how to do better against right handed batters and in more hitter friendly parks to stick in the rotation. On the bright side if he can keep dominating lefties he could at least be a useful bullpen piece.

I recommend throwing out Hart's start in Chicago against the Cubs, just a bad outing, possibly nervous as he had numerous family members in attendance.

We can live with outings like Hart's last night, as he only really struggled with Cam Smith.  Hart will have some more time to prove he does or doesn't belong in the starting rotation as Darvish isn't available to late May/early June most likely.  Shildt and staff have shown to be very patient in these type of situations so far in his tenure.

Hoping King dominates Saturday night and Cease finds himself against the tough Framber Valdez on Sunday evening.  Go Pads!

Ornelas called up .... Heyward to IL (LH OF for LH OF).

I'm happy to see him get the call. He's been grinding towards this opportunity since he was a teenager. A testament to perseverance in the developmental process.

We will get to see what Ornelas can do.

Game 2 Lineup
1. Tatis RF
2. Arraez 1B
3. Machado 3B
4. Sheets DH
5. Gonzalez LF
6. Iglesias SS
7. Wade 2B
8. Diaz C
9. Joe CF

P King

Let's hope good Cease Is there tomorrow, If not, we are looking at the first (L) sweep of the season.

This is only the 2nd time this season the Padres are in a losing streak. But only 2 games. Let's end it tomorrow with a win.

Great game by King. The offense could not get it done. It looks like the Padres were tryng to hit homers in the 9th instead of putting the ball in play with Iglesis on 2nd and nobody out.

Let's hope Cease is solid tomorrow. Valdez will be tough. Must win to prevent the sweep. Then the Padres head north to face the tough Tigers.

Go Padres!

With injuries to LHH Merrill, Cronenworth, and Heyward ... any interest in Eddie Rosario just DFA by LAD?

Only 33 ... bad 2024 but good prior to that and a good fielding LF. Small commitment. Historically has hit both LHH and RHH equally ... basically a 100 wRC+ (average) hitter.

Have to wait a week (time for LAD to trade him) before put on waivers but if on waivers likely to fall to the Padres at this point in the season. Might be only a consideration if Heyward's injury is more than revealed?
