San Diego Padres at Houston Astros: April 18-20
Quote from Randy Manese on April 21, 2025, 6:10 amWith the exception of the HR ball, Marinaccio has good underlying statistics despite a 6.14 ERA. Gillaspie, despite his non-use, has no options left and would have to be DFA'd. With many bullpens already hurting, I can see losing him more so than I did Wade or even Eguy. Bullpen vibe has been good - let's not tinker with it for now.

Didn't check on the options ... that is a wrinkle ... a do think some team would claim him.
I guess at some point the Padres will have to take that gamble on losing him on waivers (or trade him) ... as the season moves on expect the need for some more flexibility in the pen and will need that 8th RP productive ... as it appears ... they have little confidence in Gillaspie in any critical situation plus he will be "rusty".
This is just an unusual situation.
