San Diego Padres at Atlanta Braves: May 23-25
Quote from ultratvfan on May 23, 2025, 6:52 pmPadres finally win snapping a 6-game losing streak. The Padres are 5-0 over the Braves this season and have won 7 straight over them going back to last October.
Pivetta was outstanding and Kudos to Sheets and Machado for hitting one out.
Let's take game2 tomorrow afternoon.
GO PADRES!

Quote from WindsorUK on May 24, 2025, 3:31 amGavin Sheets could go hitless the rest of the year and still be a plus signing by AJ!
Dude has put up some solid numbers and contributed BIG time in the seasons first quarter.
Kudos Preller....and I hope Gavin keeps bangin'.

- Arraez (L) ... a All-Star level hitter who is actually looking good at 1B ... is a FA after this season with a current salary of $14MM. Preller like him but he liked Profar. How much / how long if they do sign Arraez?
- Sheets (L) ... clearly a surprise this season and IF it lasts he is the presumed DH (or maybe 1B) in 2026. He is controlled for 2026 and 2027 via Arbitration and should cost little since Arbs then to look at all the past years not just the most recent.
- Campusano ... no more minor league options after 2025 but controlled cheaply for 3 years (2026-28) ... does not look as though he will be a catcher but 1B/DH given his hitting potential is possible and more so given he is a RHH and if they don't sign Arraez.
- Sanabria (L) ... a prospect on the rise as he continues to hit in AA. Most likely added to the 40 man this winter and sent to AAA in 2026 unless some shuffling off the the others.
- Figueroa (L) ... a TBD prospect off to a hot start but likely not a candidate until about 2028-29.
With Arraez, King, Cease, both catchers, and likely Suarez key FA and with still a lingering need for a LF ... payroll allocation will be at the fore considering in 2025 they are OVER the CBT threshold by about $20MM.
If King becomes the #1 resigning priority (and should with Cease a FA then Pivetta a FA after 2026) that may put Arraez on the bubble depending on what he would get in a contract (I have no idea) but it should be multi-year. Preller has to make the call on whether a Sheets / Campusano / Sanabria 1B/DH can work in 2026 so that they can go out and acquire a legit LF, C while not going over the CBT for the 2nd straight year (bigger draft penalties).
Possible to trade one of Sheets, Campusano, or Sanabria but none will generate a useful return in the short run ... 1B/DH types are just not if favor in the era.

Also, Campusano will be activated for today's game ... have yet to announce the offsetting move.

Heyward to 10 day IL ... oblique strain (that could last a long time).

Quote from Alex Tamayo on May 24, 2025, 1:36 pmDoesn't anyone realize the Pads haven't gotten a hit with man on 2nd or 3rd ok innings 1 through 9 since May 14th vs the Angels? The only two runners that scored from 2nd were the ghost runners vs the Blue Jays innings 10th and 11th, that is crazy stuff.

Quote from fenn68 on May 24, 2025, 1:42 pmMay not see Darvish for awhile. Apparently ... although not feeling paid after his last rehab ... he has elbow "soreness". Still throwing but don't want to take the chance of activating him and running him out there for regular starts until they are sure of his long term stability.
Will see the medical staff to re-evalutate maybe next week then ?????
