The Padres are coming off an ugly road trip being swept in two stright series. Now, they head to Atlanta to play the Braves, who are looking for revenge after being swept in a 4-game series by the Padres in the season opener at Petco Park. After this series, they play the Marlins and Pirates at home . The Padres are enter this series 3 games behind the Dodgers, 1 game behind the Giants and 2 games ahead of the the Dbacks.

Sheets seems to be heating up after going 3 for 5, 2 HR, and 5 RBI in the final game against the Blue Jays. I hope Merrill is coming out of his slump after going 2 for 4.

Top NL West games: Dodgers(31-19) at Mets(30-20), Giants(29-21) at Nationals(), Dbacks(26-24) at Cardinals(27-23)

GO PADRES!

Game 1 Lineup
1. Tatis RF
2. Arraez 1B
3. Machado 3B
4. Merrill CF
5. Bogaerts SS
6. Sheets DH
7. Iglesias 2B
8. Díaz C
9. Lockridge LF

Pivetta P

The Padres faced Sale in the season opener and scored 3 runs on 6 hits off him. Let's hope the Padres score off him again tonight.

Why Is It that every time an important batter comes back from the IL against the Padres hits a HR? Or when a big pitcher comes back in the same way, throws 7 shutout innings?

Sheets continues where he left off. This is one of those great pickups by AJP.

My selective memory but when was the last time the "contact play" actually worked for the Padres? All I seem to remember is runners getting thrown out at the plate. Tatis again today. Has to be more failures than successes.

Second, I know some will complain about the Arraez bunt with no outs and Tatis on 2nd.

However, can see the logic since he was bunting for a hit not a sacrifice. A LHH against  a very elite LHP who falls away towards 3B ... a well placed bunt towards the 2B pulls the 1B off  1B and makes a very difficult situation to cover 1B ... unfortunately the Braves made a tough play. Some of us older fans remember this was not uncommon when hitters knew how to bunt.

If the infield is in, I don't see why you would go on contact, If they catch It, you are a death duck.

Manny at last!

The Padres should take Eli White and the Braves 3B coach out to a nice dinner.

Weird play by ATL in the 9th but have to give a lot of credit to Arraez who not only crossed over to the 3B side ... took the cut-off, spun and delivered a strike to 2B for the out all in one fluid motion.

Arraez is beginning to look plus at 1B ... despite the d stats.
