Regular Season thread.

this series shows we are close but not there yet. All 3 games decided in the 9th inning. It's not just us but most teams are having a hard time with RP this year.

Renfroe to the rescue.

He deserves to play but he’s also been money off of the bench.

Right now it’s Myers who is completely lost.

How about Hosmer, he is looking like the player we thought we signed two offseasons ago, really locked in right now

Why our closers always stink in non save situations? Anyone?

i believe it was houston street, a few years back, that bud black kept throwing out there in non save situations and he lost something like 4 straight games.

don't understand it at all. the closer position is a modern creation so the managers should understand the limitations of these players.

I forgot to post this:   at the beginning of LAD series I was looking at the previews in MLB.com...

Here's what Wil Myers has done collectively in >20 AB each vs. Kershaw / Hill / Maeda:

9/72 = .125  1 HR, 5 RBI.....     not exactly 4/72 MM value against our main rival

Actually got worse since he went 0-2? 0-3? & 0-2 in games he played against them (1 important hit yesterday was off Jansen).  I realize they're good pitchers; Wil's not the only guy with that type of line against Kershaw, but your star players have to do better against their star players.

Looking at Pads calendar next 2 weeks:  Quantrill goes tomorrow, then nearly 100% chance back to AAA for 1 start and back up to start on 5/19 to keep Paddack & Strahm @ 6 days between starts.

Normally heading into Colorado, I'd say load up the bullpen.  BUT with that trip sandwiched by off days, I'd really like to see the Pads call up Austin Allen instead.  Totally changes composition of bench, with him or Mejia (S) off bench even if Dickerson starts vs a RHP.  Take it game by game; if the pen gets used heavily, could flip Allen for a RP...

... but NOT a lot of options.  G. Reyes has been > Stock at AAA, and none of the other non-roster guys any better.  Perdomo not available for a non-injury recall till after the Rox series.  IMO, pending Mets series of course, it's a good time to try to go with a 7-man pen at least until Perdomo's available again, or ideally up until Quantrill's next start; then go back to an 8-man pen.

IF Quantrill pitches effectively tomorrow and considering Reyes and Stock are not great RP options (no other non-roster RP I would waste a roster spot to add)  ... might they consider keeping Quantrill up to further stretch out the starts for the rest or the starters or become a long relief option?

Did hear Green suggest that Wingenter's injury is not serious (a few day to recover) and should be off the IL after the 10 days.

Given the starters are not going 6 ... and we may be already seeing some of the impact of "overuse" of the pen ... not sure even for a short spell going down to a 12 man staff. Coming off days should help but still downside is greater than the upside of having another bat sitting on the bench.

Side note: in Green's comments he indicated that they are right on plan for controlling innings for Paddack / Strahm ... no idea what that plan entails ... but apparently they had one worked out from the start and are not "winging it". Looks as though they want to get them both pitching into Sept.

Now, that was some good baseball all around

Paddack was nails

Just a solid game all around

I still think Paddock can be a #1 or at least 2 , that was a complete domination tonight.
