Cal Quantrill, the Padres’ No. 12 prospect and 2016 first-rounder, will make his big league debut on Wednesday night. Sounds like a temporary 6-man rotation as the Friars look to ease the burden on their young arms.
Quote from Brian Connelly on April 30, 2019, 8:50 amYes, the logical thing to do is go 6 SP / 7 RP through the rest of this stretch with no off days. A 7-man pen can survive last 2 road games. Then home & can rotate 7th guy if needed; Maton etc all available for recall. Quantrill would make 2 starts, the 2nd being the night before the last (day) home game in that stretch. With 4-man bench AND Tatis out a few? days, RP down is really only move they can make. Then if Quantrill (or another SP?) goes down to AAA there, he's eligible to return the next time they need a 6th SP; 5/19 in San Diego.
Think they'll wait till either returning home vs LAD 5/3 or after the 6 game homestand to make any more dramatic/permanent changes.... i.e. Urias up "for good"? Really believe 2B is Urias' no later than 5/9. Question is whether Kinsler remains in a bench role.

Is Green the only one who didn’t know Garcia was not a starting SS?
He needs to quit over thinking this game of baseball.
Put your best players at their best positions and let them play.
Easy Mr. P!
Garcia had a terrible game, but he's made 50+ MLB starts at SS in his career. He's here to spot start 2B/SS/3B.
Not saying it would've changed anything re his play at SS last night, but I think AG's biggest mistake has been to not give Garcia some more starts vs RHP instead of Kinsler. But even this is really a product of Cordero getting hurt, Urias coming up (after 4 AAA games), and AG feeling compelled to split Urias & Kinsler (in hindsight, Urias was not the callup there). Garcia's basically sat on the bench for a month straight, so the rust is partly on AG.
I realize you don't want to play Garcia (or France, etc) over Machado, Tatis, and (hopefully) Urias very often; but the season's a marathon... it was a logical place for Garcia to get a start. Frankly, I hope they start him again (2B please!) today vs RHP Tehran

Quote from fenn68 on April 30, 2019, 9:09 amThey will need to open a 40 man slot for Quantrill .... another 60 day DL (Kennedy, Loup, Diaz, or Cordero are candidates) or that TBD DFA (Kinsler with a Urias call-up)?

Your opinion....I disagree.
Forget the "logical" thing....do what gives you the best chance to win the game...especially a road game.
If you want to get Garcia a start....fine,put France at 3b,Machado at SS and Garcia at 2b.
With Kinsler on the bench where he needs to be.
Kinsler is playing way too much during this horrendous slump he's in.
either he's lost it completely or slumping at an epic level....either way anyone else would be riding the pine.
The fact Green ended up with this infield "after" Garcias errors and Kinslers' horrific AB's leads me to believe he "finally" agrees.

I'm fine with that, as long as they take proper care and don't rush the kid

Quote from fenn68 on April 30, 2019, 1:03 pmLooks like the Padres will keep us guessing.
Tatis on the 10 day DL .... Maton called up for tonight ... going with 9 RP / 3 bench players.
Quantrill will be added tomorrow (apparently) with a corresponding 25 and 40 man roster move (or moves). The 25 man move likely is a pitcher but who? That is still 14 pitchers and 11 position players.
Should we then expect another add of a position player and another pitcher move? Urias up and Quantrill or Maton back down?

Quote from Commie on April 30, 2019, 4:35 pmI agree a change re Kinsler's roster spot would "feel" good like They-Are- Trying. But given the BABIP (see Fangraphs piece), they should stick with him for at least 150 ABs.
