I can’t see any other reason Pirella is in LF and Myers in Center.
And if we can’t get a hit with a runner in scoring position I’m gonna go bezerk!
Paternity leave ...
A Dickerson call up would get us another left handed bat ... these righties are killing us ...

Quote from Brian Connelly on April 21, 2019, 12:38 pmRoster moves: Margot & Robbie Erlin back, Maton & Urias sent down...
LOVE: Urias down. Made no sense for him to be sitting on bench. He's hit his whole life; he'll get his groove back... but has to play every day to do so. Would not have been in MLB if not for Cordero injury. In hindsight, the early recall was a mistake; even with Kinsler struggling.
LOVE: Maton down. Nothing against him; mostly a timing issue where he'll only miss 3 games in next 5 days with the off days. Moves up his "can be recalled" date; which might come into play in the upcoming 13 game stretch.
LIKE/LOVE: Pirela remaining up. His LF/2B/1B profile is quite helpful right now. He's better suited to timesharing @ 2B with Kinsler than Urias. Would work well for him to start & get 2 AB, then defensive double switch with Kinsler. COULD argue that Ty France would make even more sense, but guessing Pads coaching staff more comfortable with Pirela's MLB experience; know what he can/can't do. May at this early stage actually be better defensively @ 2B than France. And gives OF coverage which France would not.
HATE: Erlin back today. Expected, since Erlin @ Elsinore just to rotate bullpen arms through. But gives Pads an exceptionally long 8-man bullpen for: 1 game, off day, 2 games, off day; seems like an utter waste! Team would have a better chance of winning these 3 games with another position player on the bench. Unless...
POSSIBLE: Option Paddack after his start? Looking at the schedule & road trip, this might make sense: Paddack would miss only 1 start. Have him do what Erlin did; go to Elsinore, make his start but only go 2-3 IP; work on his curveball. Presumably Avila spot start again, but with Erlin, Perdomo, AND Wisler there Pads could go with one of them spot starting /bullpen game depending how the front end of the long stretch of games with no off day is going. Could really use that last position player on the bench, esp a LH bat like Austin Allen or (would have to add to roster) Alex Dickerson. That position player would be up 4 games if Avila recalled, or up to 9 games if Pads can live with their bullpen making a start in Paddack's spot before his return. C.P. probably would not be thrilled with this move, but it would protect him & potentially help the team.

Agree he should get the bulk of time in RF over Renfroe who is getting to shaky ground status.
Could easily see a healthy Jankowski or Cordero taking his spot to provide LHH and some better defensive back-up for CF. Too bad that is trade value (if he really had much) is disappearing .... maybe an A ball prospect from a team that needs a RH power OF as a bench / platoon option.
Worse for him if (when) the Padres move on to Naylor or Dickerson ... both LHH options both need 40 man roster slots.

Quote from fenn68 on April 24, 2019, 10:29 amThe Padres have brought third baseman Ty France up to the active roster, the club has now announced after Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported the move (via Twitter). It seems he’ll take the place of Jose Pirela, who is going on the injured list with an oblique strain.

Quote from fenn68 on April 24, 2019, 12:59 pmTechnical question on managing the 40 man roster:
The Padres currently have 5 players on the 60 day IL (Richards, Lamet, Castillo, Nix, and Jankowski) plus 5 players on the 10 day IL (Loup, Pirela, Cordero, Kennedy, and Diaz). Then add the 40 man roster players in the minors on the IL (Espinosa, Avila) and the conversion project (Guerra). That total does not leave a lot of flexibility which might result in the need to add non-roster options.
Sure they could add someone off the ML IL to the 60 day IL but not sure who may be long term issues plus have to consider the potential for someone coming off the 60 day IL.
Doubt they want to DFA anyone for a short term fix unless they have to (sort of the move if no other options) SO:
How do they deal with the Espinosa situation .... he was optioned to the minors and his injury just puts him on the minor league IL (if there is one for players in EST). Clear candidate for a 60 day IL exemption but that apparently is only available for injuries for players who had not been optioned to the minors and technically on the ML active roster or ML IL. Can the Padres activate him to the 25 man roster now ... immediately put him on the IL ... making room by optioning someone then immediately recalling that player due to injury? Or, more simply, can Espinosa just be directly sent to the 60 day IL to open a roster spot?

If we don’t get this win for The Sheriff it’s gonna really hurt!
