Not true! They get 2-5 hits almost every game!

The Padres are last in MLB in hits......and it isn’t even close.

Padres outfielder Wil Myers had a fainting episode at Kirby Yates' charity event on Sunday night, resulting from dehydration. Myers was taken to the hospital out of caution, and his labs and tests came back normal.
Myers, who said he'd fainted once before while giving blood, felt fine the following morning. He was not in the lineup on Tuesday night.

Hedges is beginning to irritate me more and more.
Consensus is that he is the best defensive catcher in the NL his year (stat - wise at least) ... no issue with that. However, his comment earlier that he should be the #1 catcher based on his defense seemingly ignoring his abysmal offensive production is now added to with the comment that he SHOULD get the Golden Glove. Probably true (and probably will) but Hedges focusing on that self accomplishment while still not addressing his hitting seems mis-placed IF he wants to be an all around benefit to the team. More and more get the feeling there is zero chance of him getting better offensively ... and therefore a back-up at best.

Wasn't that comment from the same article? I assumed he was saying he was the consensus #1 catcher "in the gold glove race". He couldn't think he is the best overall catcher in mlb. He is not insane. Has his mother had him tested?

I think his comment meant #1 catcher for the Padres. No idea how he ranks himself from an overall catching standpoint in MLB. Just guessing that is view of the value of defense probably has him (in his mind) way up the list of top MLB catchers.
Since he got out of HS ... same story great defense and needs to improve offensively ... about 10 years of hitting coaching from different folks and not getting better ... does he really care about his hitting helping the team.

I’m with you Fenn. I’ve always liked Hedges, but he’s annoyed me this year. His defense and handling of the staff is elite. His number 1 catcher comment came after Mejia started getting the bulk of the work. He was saying he was the number 1 catcher on the team. Knowing pitchers preferred pitching to him and making that comment publicly right after it was announced Mejia would be playing more did bother me. Hedges hasn’t tried to change or modify his swing or approach his entire time as starter. I’ve watched Hedges swing at 3-1 pitches out of zone when we needed base runners. I’ve watched him try to pull outside pitches for too long. He doesn’t even attempt to do small things like drive runners in from 3rd or move runners over. If you are going to hit .200 or under and be a Glove only guy at least do the small heady things as a hitter to help your team. Hedges doesn’t get that. It’s swing for the fences with an exaggerated upper cut every single AB.

Some people might agree with him on that then. I mean, he is exactly the kind of catcher that you would want with a young pitching staff. He has plenty of experience and knows how to call games and attack hitters. His premium defense would ease the stress on rookies and keep them from having to worry too much about passed balls or stolen bases. He would be ideal if the Padres were still in the beginning of the rebuild and weren't competing so his offense wouldn't matter. On a competitive team his offense put him on the bench. At best. Likely traded.
