On the plus side ... other than his first appearance Guerra actually looks like a legit ML RP. 5 subsequent appearance without giving up a run and control / velocity combo. Thought he was an easy DFA as the season started even as they move him to RP. Shaky MiL beginning as a RP (plus injury) still had me DFA him mid-season. Even as he improved .... with the 40 man crunch ... still thought he would be DFA as an A+ new minted RP. Then he was called up and after seeing him .... he has got to stick with the Padres. Give them some credit for sticking with Guerra and on the rapid successful conversion. Didn’t some other SS converted to RP turn out OK with the Padres 🙂

Well, Guerra is out of options, which REALLY limits his value given that he just converted this year...

It's TOUGH to stick in MLB as RP's on every roster every year who bounce up & down can attest.  It's hard for a team to commit to a guy who's not a mortal lock closer or 8th inning guy to keep him on roster all year.

Keep him or trade him will happen next year at very end of ST

IMO he can't take anyone off the table to get what we need except "maybe" Gore as far as prospects and Tatis as far as those already up.

Everyone needs relievers. That includes us. When you find a possible solution it is useless to trade it at low value to solve another problem. Keep him and take bullpen help off the list of needs at least partially. Trade from our stable of catchers (not Mejia), or Lauer and Lucchesie, or even one of our many middle infield prospects. Figure that if the Padres want to be really competitive in 2020 they will need a minimum of 5-6 RHRP on the 26 man and at least one on the super shuttle from EP. Who are they putting on the bubble as RHRP ... Wingenter - Reyes - Perdomo - Yardley - Stock (likely DFA) - Bolanos (if not starting) ... and all of them have minor league options as do Munoz - Bednar - Baez.

With the way MLB pitchers go less than 6 innings on average ... an effective deep bullpen is critical to win.

But again it is all about the return.
