I think Nola’s post-All Star break contribution is being under estimated … he has a slash line of 270/377/365 plus he knows the pitching staff … all that outweighs any issue with his throwing. Alfaro on the other hand has tanked.
So, Campusano gets Alfaro’s role to see how he hits and catches the staff.
No way they give the pitching staff … strength of the ball club … to a new catcher with a questionable defensive skill set … in 30+ games remaining in a playoff run.
I would add hoping Campusano can hit now to his hype … in my mind … is really not supported by observation in his brief previous ML appearance (totally over matched) and his AAA performance in a hitters’ environment really is not that impressive (298/363/423) and is showing no improvement over 2021 in EP.
He will play with Alfaro out … but he has to earn playing time with his spot appearances … not get it handed to him.

Nola has actually been pretty good offensively lately. Not a lot of power, but he's been getting on base at a .356 clip since the start of June. Outside of the new additions, Cronenworth is the only one that's been better over the same time period in that regard. He also seems to be a good situational hitter. He's leading the league in sac flies and seems to make more productive outs than most.

Yup... I was playing (with Profar struggling -although he too seems to be getting hot) with the idea of Nola /Soto/Manny 1 2 3 to spark the offense.. but things appear to be headed right again... soooo...

Yeah Myers at least a SF at that point... But solid bounce back W... Yu is soooo good is crazy... most mortals would have given up 5+ runs in those situations early on... good team win... that play by Kim in the 9th was nothing short of next level GG even if the runner was safe....

Maybe why KC is so bad … SD is leading the league in BB% but struggling to score BUT in this game they only had 1 BB (Soto none) and SD came from behind to win.
Were the KC pitchers just focused on throwing strikes “forcing” the Padres to swing and hit bad pitchers? I guess it is possible the hitters just got more aggressive.
