Bench - Nola/Alfaro/CJ/Mazara

4. CONTRERAS DH

8. CJ Abrams SS (Tatis would get some SS time too..)

God Amazing what Myers /Tatis/Profar and A BAT like Contreras (plus 2 real good rookies establishing themselves) do for this team...

Henry, SD does not have the payroll space to accommodate Contreras, because SD is not going over the CBT.
Plus, SD will probably be out bid prospect wise to get him as well.
Contreras will not happen for SD.

Voit + Lamet = Contreras salary.. easy to include in that deal ..Because 1 Voit is low cost..2 Voit absolutely destroyed Wrigley field ..and 3. CUBS asked for Lamet in 2020 and 2021 (when we asked for Contreras both times)... only thing to work out is the prospects going alongside... Campusano + Rosario + Mears would be my guess for 2 months of Wilson.... Cubs would love that deal

Not so sure “easy” fits moving Voit and Lamet. NYY spend the second half of 2021 trying to deal Voit (who now has a $5.5MM contract) and could not find a taker. Finally over the winter the Padres took him for a Rookie Ball prospect … then Lamet ($4.3MM) can’t even make the struggling Padres pen and only has one year control, that is a lot for a minor older minor leaguer with limited control.
Padres best approach would be to get the Cubs to eat the remaining salary for Contreras (about $3MM) by just using a better prospect package. Cubs don’t need leftovers that cost and would prefer (and will get from someone) a good prospect return.
No idea the prospect mix that would outbid the Mets, etc.

Just an aside on the Padres competition (among others) for:
NYY in on Benintendi
NYM in on Contreras
BOST in on Bell
Those are some big money motivated suitors. Price will go up.
