Padres vs Rockies July 11-14

Forgot that Suarez was on the 15 day. He's already been out more than a month so it makes sense. He's out until August 5th at the earliest now.

This audition for Ruiz is not only important for him but may have a significant impact on any deadline moves.

IF he establishes himself as a legit CF option … with Profar, Myers, and Tatis returning … the pursuit of adds may change and the placement of Tatis may lock down at SS and relegating Kim / Abrams to part-time roles. Maybe Abrams gets CF time making Grisham expendable. With all those returnees plus Ruiz need ABs and DH may be the route and Voit is expendable.

If that falls into place … does more pitching become the prime target? Does stand pat become a more viable alternative?

Basically the entire Padres’ season rest on Ruiz’ success … no pressure!

Unless he comes out absolutely on fire I doubt his performance will have much impact on what we do. We have 16 games left before the deadline. That's not going to provide much of a sample to base any decisions off of.

I think he just has to be adequate enough to provide a competent CF and maybe take OF off as a priority. So Padres may then focus more on C or DH.

If the Padres make a move at all … I only expect one big move.

Well that is the way to start a career for Ruiz! Clearly Hall of Fame candidate.

Kim can really hit LHP.

Never thought I would be eager to see Myers back in the line-up and Hosmer hitting against LHP … hitting in the middle of the order.

Voit and Alfaro are just cold (or just bad) but hitting in the middle of the order. In the past two weeks:

200/222/229 … Alfaro

214/306/333 … Voit

They both looked out matched today against a LHP who has not been good all season. Voit has to be on the bubble and despite his moments of clutch hitting his role as a catcher may be what keeps him around (but should be batting down in the line-up).

Well that escalated quickly.

Clev was rolling…..until he wasn’t.

Myers 2 for 2 s singles so far he is due up to lead off the bottom of the 6th next

Have I said how I hate games at Coors Field?
