Keeping position player separate from pitchers ... what is the sequence of roster moves under the assumption any trade will not happen until the weekend prior to the deadline.
- (if the rumor is correct) Ruiz activated today and Batten down IF Kim is ready but I would option Rooker who has shown little in his AB
- Profar could be activated this weekend if passes concussion protocol ... maybe that is the option of Batten timing
- Myers post All-Star break and that likely sends Azocar to the minors
- Tatis the last week of July with the assumption that Ruiz is playing effectively may push for a move of Voit
- Then any trade add probably at the expense of Grisham.
Got the sense that Abrams is not going to be optioned and play SS/OF/DH as needed.

I looked at Laureano's current stats (plus he is not even playing CF in OAK full time) ... not worth the trade at his point if you want an impact move for the playoffs. Clearly not worth dealing Hassell and Rosario just to move Voit's salary and then trade more prospect to get a replacement.
From a domino effect that effectively blocks Ruiz/Abrams as CF alternatives (or Tatis). If Laureano does not block them ... really not worth the deal.
Like Laureano and should be an upgrade over Grisham ... but in reality he is an "average" hitter and that is not worth the price you suggest. Probably could get him for a lot less in prospects while not trying to get OAK to take on any contract like Voit ... the are in the mode of clearing out salary.

Yup if Ruiz and CJ as well as Mazara are playing well they are here long term.. once team is at full strength .. the bottom 4 on the roster (depending on who/which bat we get ) are:
10) Nola C (only if Contreras is the BAT)
11) Hosmer 1B (not likely cause of $$)
12) Grishman (but again only if a 2nd CF to protect or share CF with Ruiz )
13)Voit - lack of flex position wise and $$$ make him an attractive get for a team wanting a more controlled alternative to DH at super low cost...and the easiest player to move for AJP to create room for a non CF or C playing BAT...

Ruiz is starting in CF. I haven't seen the corresponding move announced anywhere yet.

Batting #8 behind #7 Mazara (rare start vs lhp) and Azocar (#9)... interesting..cant wait to hear the move...

LHP Gomber pitching for COLO … Kim is back at SS, leading off.
Not sure what to make of it but Azocar is in LF and Mazara is playing RF vs a LHP … RHH Rooker and Batten are not in the line-up so guess which one has been optioned.

The ? Is who is no longer in the 40?.. why wouldn't Grish start over Azocar in LF..unless they want Grish to have a day off...
Debut in Coors field in CF .. Fun Fun Fun...or should I say rum run run..catch catch catch...

I see Rooker to minors in 40 and Suarez 60 IL (wasn't he on 10 or 15?).. but ???

Reported is that Rooker is optioned … still nothing on the 40 man move. May need some official OK from the league I guess.

6:00pm: The Padres have announced the selection of Ruiz. To create space on the active roster, Rooker was optioned. To make room on the 40-man roster, Robert Suarez was transferred to the 60-day IL. Suarez will now be ineligible to return until 60 days from his initial IL placement, which was June 7. That means he can rejoin the club August 6.
