Can't DFA him tbh.. if u can't trade him u got to pay him .. I still think he will be able to get past this.. is not "stuff" velo or anything it's "Wildness"    He is doing something in his delivery however minute that is costing him inches mostly left to right. Right to left vs up and down from what I can see... maybe his arm angle .. maybe his release point ..I know on the hbp to Voit he didn't follow through and was trying to "guide" the curve vs letting it loose and letting the ball do its thing...

Heard one “analyst” trying to suggest a cause. Sort of putting a couple things together. First, recent stats (in the league) show is that breaking balls / off-speed are becoming the primary pitch ahead of fastballs. Second, the philosophy of working the count and being selective … taking the walk and running up pitch counts. Third, look for the breaking ball / off-speed first.

In one sense that is working … players are getting on base (a lot of walks) BUT mentally locking into that approach becomes a problem with runners in scoring position as the pitchers (knowing the hitter’s approach) adjust and blow fastballs past them. Hitter can’t seem to adjust their approach.

Now I do understand if the hitters became “aggressive” and started to swing early and often … and consistently went down 1-2-3 on less than 10 pitches … the same analysts would argue they need to be more selective work up pitch counts. I guess by taking the approach not being used … can’t be wrong.

Change is called for … the current approach is resulting in long, frustrating, and very boring games lacking hits, base running, and most importantly winning. In one sense losing in boring long games is the worst scenario … worse than losing in quick games with less time to get bored, I guess. At least the aggressive approach might put the ball in play and we get some movement.

Think he is in his last ARB year this winter … and should get in the $15MM range ($11MM in 2022) since ARB looks at this past not just now.

IF he does not right the ship in the last 40 games, the could (should) just non-tender him and pass on his last season (and that potential contract). It would help a lot in that decision if Pomeranz returned to his pre-injury form and going forward gamble on Castillo from the left side.

Can think of a lot of better options for that $15MM than rolling the dice on a closer that has struggled with both MILW and SD in 2022.

In 2022 … just have to run out the string with him since his upside is what is needed to win and the alternatives are just pure gambles as to effectiveness …
