Padres vs Mets Game Thread

4 run lead for Degrom after one inning.

Guess we'll see what kind of life this team has today.

Shaping up to be a game where we see a long relief combo of Morejon and Baez with some bench players getting field/AB time .... maybe "rest" Machado, Hosmer, Tatis in an afternoon blowout.

Bingo ... I think we see what kind of life this team has 🙁

I'm optimistic for the future ... I'm patient ... just stating today's reality ...

Would I like Syndergaard on the Padres ... yes. The question for me is the price tag which could (and probably is) over his value to the Padres ... and apparently all other teams who theoretically need him more for the playoff runs.

Mets have to be selling 2 more years of control at arbitration salaries for a #1 SP ... that profile (when the Mets don’t have to sell now ... could be the winter) likely makes the ask astronomical.

Buyers (not just the Padres) are seeing a 2019 pitcher with an ERA in the mid 4 ERA with a lot of inconsistency who may not really help them in 2019 in a playoff push. The prospective buyers may not even be close in having the talent to approach the Mets demands or, if they do, don’t see his current performance (plus his 2 year potential) being worth the loss of prospect potential they would have to give up. Think for the Padres the demand is likely to START with Gore then add other pieces ... for just 2 years of “potential” vs. 6 years of  “potential” of Gore+ when the Padres are more likely to be contenders. A debate on the value of Syndergaard is likely shaped by only 2 years of control and where the buying team sees itself during those two years ... vs what the have to give.

Good chance he stays put ... at least until the winter when his price may drop.

Saw a write-up that the Mets are looking for a MLB Top 30 prospect PLUS a couple other strong prospects (whatever that translates to) as a return for Syndergaard.

Good luck .... in Padres terms that would be Gore and a couple of other prospects. Would not even consider giving up 6 years of Gore for 2 years of Syndergaard.

When I saw that same post, I was thinking the top 30 could be Urias. Especially if the Mets evaluators see Urias as a SS candidate. I know Casey Stern of XM radios Inside Pitch does not think that A Rosario is a good fit at SS, and would rather see him at 3B or SS.

To be honest, if we were to do a trade with NYM. I want McNeil. He is a natural 2B, playing in the OF because of Cano and Frazier. Now Frazier is a FA after this season, but the NYM still have Lowrie on the roster next year for $10M.

The big coup would be if Preller could get both Thor and McNeil out of NYM. They dont seem to have a lot in the minors, and not happy with their C situation. Thor, McNeil, and Lowrie for Urias, Mejia, France, Baez, and MiL Hernandez.

There just isn’t much benefit to the Mets to trade McNeil.

There really isnt. He would just look a lot better in a SD uniform over a NYM uni! Plus it would make SD that much better, quicker.

Agree completely on Gore:  No touch for anyone (along with Tatis & Paddack).... But there is a world of difference between the #3 overall MLB prospect and a "top 30 prospect".   Of course Mets are going to ASK for him, but it's almost as if they're telegraphing that they know the top 10 overall MLB prospects are off the table...

I interpret the Mets price as one premier prospect & "other strong pieces" to mean other players/prospects outside the top 100. This price is lower than what many (OK, me 🙂 had in mind in offseason, which makes sense given time gone by and Thor's mediocre season.  (BTW, where would Pads be right now if they HAD traded for Thor in offseason....?)

I think this price is EASILY achievable for the Padres.  Even Urias is a possibility (I wouldn't, but Pads are deep in system there), but the obvious target IMO is Patino or Morejon.  I would do:  Patino, Lauer, & X Edwards in a heartbeat.  How do the Mets say "No" to that?   Patino AND Morejon or Logan Allen would be a really tough call.  But Pads simply have the depth in high level SP to be the best trade candidate to go after Thor.    If they got him, I would simply go to a 6-man rotation with him pitching every 5th day. Would do same to start 2020 with Garrett Richards, Lamet, and even Paddack & Strahm still <200 innings limited...

Luis Patino just put on Temporarily Inactive list.... i.e. he's in trade talks...

That's probably fair but man......I'm really hoping to see what Patino and Edwards have.

I'd rather give up Morejon than Patino and almost any position player other than Edwards.....maybe any "two" position

players other than Edwards as long as Abrams isn't one of them.
