Padres vs. Dodgers

Quote from MrPadre19 on August 3, 2020, 8:38 pmActually I think Paddack “is” alot like Peavy.
A fierce competitor with dominant stuff.......and he pitched pretty darn well tonight against great team.Lets face it...this current Dodger team is better than anything Peavy ever faced.
I can’t decide which player I like better....Cronenworth or Grisham!
Those two long with Pham have already paid dividends.....and when Pagan settles down and if we get “anything” from Davies....phew,that’s a hell of an off-season of trades!

Quote from Randy Manese on August 3, 2020, 9:37 pmWhat a game! If you would have told me that we'd have as many homers against Buehler as K's, I would never have believed it. Got to give credit to Hedges for calling an excellent game and picking off Smith at 3rd; he really got all the pitchers back in the groove after they started to falter with bad counts. Cronenworth continues to amaze. Thought Buehler would eat up or RHPs but even Myers showed great patience and got a very bad call on his strikeout. A few flaws but overall an impressive effort. If we can battle May tomorrow like we did with Buehler today, we'll have a good chance to win provided our pitching come through again. Going to be interesting to see who comes in after Lamet. Go Padres!

Before he completely loses his “potential” as a prospect.
I’m beginning to think that’s where we are with Naylor.......why I usually include him in my made up deals.
If we don’t get Baez and Morejon up and going they will be in this category also.
Mejia needs to hit or all of his value will be gone as well.
Thinking Naylor does not have much trade value .... some team would certainly take him (probably in a multi player deal) but with the Padres not playing his LH bat in situations calling for a LH bat ... value plummets.
Guessing if he could be moved in a deal for something of value .... Preller would pull the string since Naylor is not displacing Hosmer ... Tingler clearly does not want him in the OF ... and the Tingler DH model is to use it as a "rest day" for regulars. Has little fit for the Padres ... but his hitting potential is still there, so someone would take the shot on him.
====
Not quite in the same mind on Morejon (still very young) and Baez .... in part because they are pitchers. Guessing they would be either up (Baez) or on early call-up (Morejon) if the Padres did not clog up the active roster with some veterans and out of option players. Both would be good trade chips ... but to get something of value and not to just move on from them. Otherwise, still good back-up pieces until the next wave is ready.
Naylor has zero trade value at this point. He is a DH/1B whose only value is his bat, and he is not hitting right now. He would barely get us a PTBNL at this point. Besides which the guy only has a total of 11-AB this year. He is 2 for 11. I am sure even Tony Gwynn has had worse stretches than that.
Baez has already shown he can be a valuable bullpen weapon. Teams wanted him in trade last offseason. Think we could possibly use another solid bullpen piece at this time? I do. Morejon also only has a total of 8 big league innings. They were okay, not great. He looked great in summer camp though. One of our top pitchers in fact, wasn't he? Why on Earth would we trade these guys?

You might be right, maybe I am a little bias because I just loved to see Peavy's slider strike dodgers out up and down every time, for what is worth the starting lineup of the Dodgers in 2007 (when Peavy won his CY award) hit .290 1 through 8 wich was Martin, Loney, Kent, Furcal, Garciaparra, L. Gonzalez, Pierre, Ethier, last year Dodgers lineup hit .264, sure is a little different game now, but I think Peavy's swing and miss stuff, would prevail over Paddack stuff, right now.

Quote from Brian Connelly on August 3, 2020, 11:55 pmThat was a great freaking game!
The 1st pitch Pederson HR & then Yates' to Bellinger were valleys that led to higher peaks... SO great to see Paddack & Yates storm back after those hiccups; makes the win feel even better.
Can't get over Grisham & especially Cronenworth @ 1B defensively... what the heck?!?!? I realize Hosmer will come back but he's cementing himself onto the active roster with superglue. Contributions all up & down the lineup & field. Hedges helped win the game with his framing & defense, and yes RBI 1st hit... so did newbie Almonte.
Just all around great effort... except for that baserunning... got away with it this time, but that's the kind of stuff that will kill you in the playoffs.

Peavy is still easily my favorite Padre pitcher too. Paddack's intensity is the most like Peavy, but no slider, so his stuff doesn't remind me of Jake. Pure stuff-wise, Lamet might even be better, but his focus & command aren't at elite Peavy level yet. When his Slider is on, I LITERALLY don't see how anyone can hit it.

Quote from Brian Connelly on August 4, 2020, 12:02 amI did not see the Almonte add coming, but it looks like a shrewd move.
Despite his good 1st outing, for tomw I'd go: Naylor DH 7th over Almonte & Garcia 2B 9th. Definitely stick with Cronenworth @ 1B & Hedges @ C again in same places in lineup.

My post explains why you would trade these guys.
You cant only trade the guys who have proven to not be able to handle the major leagues.....they have no value.
“IF” you want to add a player who can produce you have to give up players with value.
I’m not saying we “should” trade them...only that if you decide to dive into the trade market(as it is this season),you have to include players who still have value.
