Padres vs Cubs June 13-16

PreviousPage 2 of 3Next

What a difference it's been against the Cubs starters vs their bullpen. Weathers is making a spot start today. Hopefully the bats show up big again to support him.

12 runs without Machado getting a hit???

Boys are stepping up- Profar, Cronenworth, Voit, and even Grisham have shown life here in June. Let's hope they keep it up through the All Star break, as it seems Jr. won't be back until afterwards.

Congrats Manny! 1500 hits! And a padres 2-0 lead thru 1!

Well it wasn't what I was hoping to see from Weathers, but the bats have certainly shown up again today.

Talk about taking a team to the woodshed.....tomorrow might be 2-1 with Musgrove getting the W.

Personally I would like to see a lot of crooked numbers in a lot of innings tomorrow 🙂

Go Padres !!!

Agree, the offense certainly likes hitting on the road this season. And with the way they are hitting, and the way Musgrove is pitching, definitely shows the sign of a sweep today in Chitown.

This is the type of game past Padre teams have "lightened up", stay focused today guys and leave town with the brooms waving in the air!

Sure none of us where hoping to see this from Weathers ... but didn't he exceed expectations?  He hasn't been getting folks out at AAA ... how can we have expected him to get major leaguers out (even Cubs)?

What are reasons to hope that Weathers can / will be useful major league pitcher?  I'm not seeing any ...

The good news is that it seems like we have plenty of options for better use of his spot on the 40-man roster ...

The fact that he was one of the better Starters last season in the first half. Then he got tired. He has to be a little disheartened being regulated to AAA this season. I fully believe that he will be a very good #4 or 5 for us next season.

Agree that ERA of 2.73 over 62 IPs to start last season ... and him being only 22 now ... are reasons for optimism ...

But does he pass the eye / scouting test at all?  I'm not seeing it ... maybe some time with Niebla will help ... seems like he's gotta be close to last call ...

He lost his command that one inning if he doesn't walk in 2 runs and challenges the batters he likely gets out without allowing the 4 runs.. his fastball was like 92 when we drafted him now is like 95.. (Lauer like) I think his FB looked a bit flat and lacked pinpoint control to be effective.. if he adds a pitch like Lauer did (cutter or slider can't remember which) Wethers can make it as a solid #3 ... He has lots of talent and the mindset/bloodlines to pitch for a long time..Look at last night's Cubs P..thats their Gore version (their top pitching prospect) and I think he looked worse
