Padres vs Cardinals May 30-June 1
Quote from MrPadre19 on June 1, 2022, 3:27 amMaybe if Manny hadn’t gone ballistic we wouldn’t have lost Melvin and he may have walked Albert?
This team seems to be falling apart due to frustration from not being able to score.
Sure hope it’s not a long term tailspin like last year at the trade deadline……

Quote from fenn68 on June 1, 2022, 4:26 amNo season goes smoothly … runs of hot streaks and runs of cold streaks. Clearly a number of the key bats who have track records of hitting have collectively gone cold … will not stay that way much longer.
Hosmer and Machado carried the early season (aside from SP) and in the past week+ have been virtually non-existent. Myers continues to struggle. All three will be much more productive as the season moves on. When the pick-up that should help the rest of the line-up be more productive.
Not to say the team will turn into an offensive juggernaut … but hit enough to win.
Have noted that in May … Voit has delivered a slash line of 262/348/443 (791 OPS) … that is a bit above average in the league … so his demise may be a bit premature. Plus in the past week Grisham was at 267/389/667 (1058 OPS) … small step but encouraging.
Too soon to panic but still need to move out of Cano and Alcantara for better bats to round out the length of the line-up … but more time with the regulars with a track record of better performance. Then there is Tatis.
Still seven games in the loss column ahead of the fist team out of the playoffs.

Quote from fenn68 on June 1, 2022, 4:32 amI still see his pitching as frustrating to watch but have to give Snell some credit for quality results against STL. Struggled early but got through 6 innings yielding only 2 runs / 2 hits.
Melvin’s philosophy of SP going deep into games and allowing them to work out of early struggles seems to be helping Snell to work past his historical 5 innings starts. Actually seems to be helping all the SP.

THIS is the difference in our staff from the likes of Green and Tingler( neither, in my opinion, belong in a big league dug out) and an ex player/catcher in Melvin. He understands that his best pitchers are his starters.
