If Cleveland preferred Renfroe and Cordoba would be fine with me. Padres only pick up the $17MM and still stay under $100MM payroll with room for a 3B add.
======
then there is Greinke!
Dont really want to give up on Cordero yet. And Im still into getting Lamb for 3B and Greinke, but got to get Greinke to waive the no trade clause to SD.

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 17, 2018, 1:40 pmWe haven't really discussed these guys but....
How bad defensively is Jurickson Profar at 3b?
How about Nick Castellanos?
Profar is still only 25 and rumored to be a trade candidate and finally had a full season last year with decent numbers.
But he's also rumored to be the one who may take over at 3b for Beltre.
I know Castellanos was moved off of 3b "because" of his defense....but how bad was it?
He's also not cheap....so not really serious about him but just curious what others think.

Quote from Booster SD on December 17, 2018, 2:14 pmI know that we have breached the subject on here before in an effort to get either Suarez or Senzel from CIN, and it was more of a player for prospect trade. However, what if we approached it from a money standpoint. There are rumors that LAD is willing to do a dollar swap Bailey for Kemp/Puig so they can take a run at Harper. What if SD approached CIN about taking Bailey's contract in order to get either Suarez or Senzel. CIN is rumored in needing SP and OF help, and of course we know they are never going to be big spenders. Gennett is rumored to be available if he does not sign an extension. So what if we offered to take Bailey's contract (hope for some Balsley/Petco magic) and Suarez for Renfroe or Reyes/Luchessi/Baez and Guerra. That would save CIN $30M this year and $14.5M next year with the Bailey buy out. That would allow CIN to sign Kuechel and Pollock both been rumored to be of interest for CIN. Then with Luchessi gives them 2 SP, one at league minimum, a low cost power OF that would mash in CIN homer yard, a very solid SP prospect that could arrive in 19 or 20, and Javy Guerra whose bat might play in CIN and give them something to use in case of a Gennett trade.

Castellanos is a FA after the season and is expected to make $11.3MM in 2019. Yes he was moved off 3B because he was very, very, very bad. Consider over the past 3 seasons at 3B:
Castellanos (1996 innings) ..... -25 DRS .... -6.4 dWAR
Myers (325 innigs) .................. + 1 DRS .... - 4.8 dWAR
So, defensively Castellanos is WORSE than Myers (by a lot) ... also, he is even worse in the OF. The man needs to find a DH home because he can hit. It will be interesting to see his market as FA next winter.
PS Franco (3508 innings) ....... -22 DRS .... -0.7 dWAR is in the same mold. The three worst defensive 3B in 2018 by a large margin were Andjuar (NYY), Devers (Bost), and Franco (Phil).

I love the thought process, and "it's not my $", but I don't think Pads have 30 MM room to add to payroll this year? Would put them around 115 MM & Bailey might be a straight release like Phil Hughes last year. I proposed something like this somewhere but with Senzel & Cincy taking some $ back on Bailey AND taking Myers contract.

I guess Andjuar & Devers are young & theoretically can improve. But Need to stay the #$(@ away from guys like Castellanos & Franco... literally better off just seeing if way more athletic Myers can improve and/or stay healthy & just compensate for defense with offense.
Kyle Seager the opposite problem; good defense, but is he falling off a cliff offensively? Scares me how bad he was in a lineup with Nelson Cruz, Segura, Cano, Gordon in it. We all saw the hard way what happens when bat speed falls off a cliff with Headley last year...

Quote from fenn68 on December 17, 2018, 5:03 pmGiven his contract, would be crazy to deal for Seager even if Seattle ate half. Read an article that suggested the broken toe was a factor in 2018 ... it made him change is swing and could not push off BUT the article also suggested some stats going back to 2017 that showed reduced "hard contact" plus significantly more shifting against him coupled with an oblique injury (that reappeared in 2018). Roll that all up and his rebound ability is seriously in question. At 31 looking more like a downhill trajectory.
Frankly at a loss to ID a significant 3B target .... even without many teams looking for a 3B. Don't really see CINN moving either Suarez or Senzel. Maybe TB moves Duffy now that they have Diaz ... decent filler for a couple of years.
Listen to Rosenthal today on the plight of Moose. A very good 3B with really no suitors (as the issue last year) stemming from lack of team needs at 3B and some dislike of his low OBP. He might be the Padres option on a very team friendly deal ... Padres have a glaring hole and can ignore the OBP issue while Moose just needs a job.
I guess Moose on a 2 year deal or a trade for Duffy (2 years control) would bridge to Potts IF they feel he is the real deal. Maybe just to next winter when they become "interested" in both Arenado and Rendon.
Oh yea .... Atlanta is reportedly "open" to moving Riley (AAA top 3B prospect) in the "right deal". They need a corner OF (think RHH preferred), closer / RP, and a top of the rotation SP (Padres need not apply for that option). The do have some payroll leeway. Myers or Renfroe plus Yates for Riley (Top 100 player) and a second lower level pitching prospect (ATL has a ton but not much coming hitting-wise). Low chance but ATL does want to defend its AL East title and with the moves of WASH and NYM so far and expect more to come for them and a blockbuster or two from PHIL with "stupid" money to spend. As good a prospect as Riley is ... not helping sitting 2019 in AAA.

Quote from Booster SD on December 17, 2018, 7:46 pmI think its time for Preller to make a call. Hey older Hoffy, get a plane ticket and get a fungo and go hang out with Myers. Have Myers oil up the 3B glove and work on footwork and arm slot with GHoff. Time to make a $5.5M bet that Myers can handle the Hot Corner better than any other option available to us. Start Urias in AAA with Tatis, Cordero, and Mejia. Resign Ellis and lets start the season with Myers @ 3B, Garcia @ SS, Kinsler @ 2B, and Hosmer @ 1B. Start the OF with Renfroe, Margot/Jank, and Reyes. Then when Tatis is ready, bring up Urias at the same time. And then based on how Myers is doing and what other teams need, make some moves on selling some OFers.

Well, we assume that Pirela is gone to make room for Kinsler. So, I would say that Ellis could sign a MiL deal with the guarantee that he is on the 40 man as soon as they can put Richards on the 60 day DL. Not sure of when that is possible, after Spring? And with Ellis not getting a lot of play, he would probably take that deal. Allen needs to be in AAA, working between C and 1B, splitting time with Mejia.
