I am guessing he is holding out for a longer term deal than any team is comfortable with giving. The stats types are seeing some noteworthy drops in his peripheral stats so going long seems high risk. Then toss in the loss of a draft pick since Kuechel was offered and declined which is harder to justify on a short term deal.
Combine the two and the market of interested teams shrinks unless the AAV is lower which can't real appeal to Kuechel.
He originally was looking over $100MM and 6 years ... clearly that will not happen. Even if he drops his AAV down to $15MM ... he probably is holding out for 4 years (a $60MM deal). Sounds like teams (the few that are still interested) are more in the 2 year range and even if the AAV is higher ... say $20MM ... that drops the deal to "only" $40MM.
Guessing he signs at this stage on an embarrassing 1 year deal (see Moustakas last year) with incentives at a mid-level AAV.

So the last move of the offseason is bringing in Socrates Brito off waivers from the D backs.
What is the corresponding move?
Does this signal a trade of a corner outfielder?
Do we just put him(Brito) back on waivers and try to get him through?
Is Cordero headed to AAA and if so.....who is back up CF......Myers?....Brito?
Seems like something else is about to give or why grab another corner outfielder?
This does hurt the Dbacks who lost their starting Rightfielder right after they DFA’d Brito.
I’m sure they were hoping he would clear waivers.....only to be claimed by a Division rival.

I would put the odds at
trade 10%
block him from another team and try to sneak him through waivers later 30%
depth with Freddy out 30%
claimed to send down Cordero for regular PT 25%
In Preller we Trust 5%

I just think Preller got a bit lucky seeing Brito on the waiver wire .... and he jumped on it. Not that Brito is good or has any long term value (good chance he does not make the full season) but guessing Preller wanted a LHH OF to cover all three OF slots and PH BUT at the same time wanted to send Cordero AAA. Cordero did not have a good ST .... low OPS and about a 38% K rate. Still great potential and needs the development time in AAA both offensively and defensively.
Brito becomes a true bench option ... use in case of urgency with no real need to carve out playing time. Give the limited ABs to Myers - Margot - Reyes - Renfroe and see what happens.

I gotta think Franchy is ticketed for AAA. His spring wasn't great to begin with, but even if it was I'd much rather he get regular PT in the minors than be stuck as the 5th OF in the bigs.
