This will backfire as soon as I type it, but I would be surprised if the Pads lost anyone.  Hansel Rodriguez is this year's "talent is there but too raw/injury" guy.   Gettys as we all know has 4 out of 5 tools, could conceivably fit on an AL team as that defense/pinch runner maybe try platooning vs LHP.  Just don't see it getting down to INF Vosler RP Magill or others.

Now we will probably lose all 4 🙂

You're WAY higher on Seager than I am... 31 years old, ton of mileage, #'s have dropped dramatically 2 years in a row.  .273 OBP in THAT lineup last year is NOT a solution to our OBP problem.  Think 10 MM AAV (40 MM) is what he MIGHT get as a FA.  Not saying he has no value, but no excess value at 10 MM/yr.  HATE that he's 3B only; I'd much rather sign Marwin Gonzalez for the same $; don't lose a prospect, gain way more flexibility, lose some power.  Maybe not really an everyday 3B, but will always be in demand; could re-trade.  I would be disappointed giving up either of those guys alone for Seager @ 10 MM per.  24? y.o. Ty France might literally be better than 31 y.o. Kyle Seager.

Gray... also feels high.  NYY basically giving up on him b/c he can't pitch there.  Not 6 PLUS 4 years of MLB caliber guys.  Nix has never been my favorite, but he could really rebound nicely from having his surgery.  I hate doing a deal like this relative to the higher cost of going after an ace like Kluber where you KNOW he's #1 in your rotation.  Don't even know that with Gray; likely is... but by default, which is not the same thing.   I view Gray as a fallback option if can't get someone better.  Definitely would not do this deal if I'd already gotten Kluber or Thor... save the ammo

Definitely upgrades C, but it's already one of our deepest positions.  Granted makes Hedges available & increases his value, so could recoup some of this outlay, but unless there's a direct path to another deal centered around Hedges, feels like the wrong "1 big move" to make?  I'm with FENN that prefer 1 year or 3 year+ deals over 2 yr contracts since unlikely to make playoffs 1st year.

Also this-yrs of control:  Realmuto-2, A. Allen-6, Campusano-6

is way riskier than:  Hedges-4, Mejia-6, A. Allen-6, Campusano-6

I don’t want him either.....seems a year or two too early for this kind of move.

I was just trying to explain why they may have interest.

Unless it is part of another deal to get an Ace,a 3B or a SS.

fills both teams big needs and arguably a fair one for one deal but how do you satisfy Miami which the rumor seems to ignore except the NYY would have to supply the prospects.

NYY really have no big time prospects left BUT they do have a couple of ML parts that I could see them moving:

1. Andujar ... he almost won the AL Rookie of the Year based on a big time bat but as a 3B was horrible defensively ... Miami would move him to 1B (NYY were also considering that) ... he fits as a major add for Miami

2. Frazier .. once an elite prospect buried in the NYY OF surplus

maybe throw in a NYY prospect to make everyone feel better.

Everyone gets better and there are no big contracts involved ... so no impact on payroll limits leaving money for future moves. Also, might help clear the way for the NYY to sign Machado (who wants to play for the NYY by all reports). Plus may free up Sonny Gray even more get dealt and pick up maybe an INF fill.

This one actually makes sense ... too much sense?

NYY have 3 top 100 prospects.  We have 10 (OK 9 considering Tatis isn't an option), including Mejia who seems like an ideal replacement fit.  They are deep beyond top 100, but not as deep as we are.  They do have the "former top prospect" guys you mentioned; but so do we (young OF's & SP's)

Miami "controls" the trade obviously, but Preller should absolutely not let the YANKEES of all teams get 3 years below market control of Thor, because he wasn't willing to give up Chris Paddack for example.  I hope Paddack, Morejon, etc are the next Thor... they most likely are not.

Another report said 3 teams are in the running for Realmuto.  Hope that includes us as a 3rd team.

Agree mostly since the 2 year control SP's giving up trade assets are NOT a fit.  But he is an out there guy...

Although I liked his clinical agent-like evaluation of his surplus value; MLB needs more straight shooting less "we still love Realmuto; he's our guy" Miami is spouting... come on!

Hard to express how truly bad Andujar is defensively, but some stats:

20 "qualified" 3B in 2018 and he was dead last in dWAR with -15.5 ... #19 was Solarte at -7.5 and only 7 3B had minus dWAR.

If you like DRS ... he was worst there too with a whopping -20 ... next worst was at -13.

If the NYY can't move him to some team that wants his bat as a 1B/DH it looks as though the NYY will try to make that move with him.

Would add with his big bat (and an alternative home in NY) the will move him only in a deal for a top line ML pitcher (e.g. Syndergaard, Kluber, Bauer, ...) and not anything the Padres have to offer.
