Reports are that Seattle has contacted both players about waiving no trade clauses .... yes, they both have FULL NO TRADE CLAUSES. So, maybe SD and Seattle are close in determining the players in play BUT getting both Segura and Leake to waive their contracts usually comes with an added cost to the buyer assuming they are willing to leave Seattle and / or join the Padres (never know what players think). Usually, that issue is resolved with more money ... both have "option years" at the tail end of their deals that they may want made permanent or just a a "modification" to their base contract (bonus to waive the no trade or a revised "larger" contract).
Tough to get just one player to waive a no trade clause but two in the same deal would he some heavy lifting ... but possible. If it is just Leake that is holding up the deal and not Segura ... might just see a different mix of players or dollars.
I thought it was kind of unusual to have 3 veteran long-term contract guys all named in a deal that is just speculation?
Kind of awkward. I get they're all pros, but still... might even affect trade values if the deal doesn't go through.

Agree that Leake is probably not going to be a problem ... as I recall he waived his no trade to go to Seattle to be on the west coast and closer to his family in AZ ... last I checked SD is closer to AZ than Seattle. Of course, time has passed so who knows.
Segura is just an unknown but I can see a motivation to get a deal done from Seattle's point of view (and maybe take what some might see as a lesser return) since the Full No Trade Clauses are a roadblock to make any deals ... with Leake might shut out options with 2/3 of teams at least. Maybe being able to package both to SD not only saves some money but is the best option to unburden them from two No Trade roadblocks.
Beginning to make sense ... that worries me.

Probably a good bet that something will happen at 3B (or SS) even if it is not the Segura deal and Tatis to 3B.
If you look at the current 40 man roster INF (not counting 1B) and sort of position the players by experience, the Padres may be starting with Pirela / Asuaje at 2B, Urias / Guerra at SS, and Garcia at 3B. France (with limited AAA time) might be in waiting. Of course the return of Myers to 3B is always possible. That just will not cut it going into 2019.
If anything with the cuts of Villanueva and Spangenberg ... they may have accelerated the timeline for Tatis' arrival (SS or 3B) from what I expected around July 1.

Something I haven't seen mentioned is: don't be surprised if Pads trade one of Reyes/Renfroe AND Myers.
I love Franmil, but feel like he's getting a little overrated on a small sample size for a guy who is always going to be a defensive liability. Not mentioned as much is what's in the hopper: Josh Naylor (LH Reyes but at least 1B capable), Buddy Reed, & Edward Olivares 0.5 - 2 years out, with 3 good OF behind them in Elsinore (Ornelas, J. Rosario, Podorosky).
And Cordero as LH & very athletically superior could easily develop into a starter if he can make enough contact

If they trade 2 of Myers / Renfroe / Reyes .... betting it is not Reyes in part is that his defense in the OF will keep his best landing spot an AL team (limiting the candidates since most are not looking to trade for DHs) plus, as you said he has a very limited sample size so he also carries a high risk factor. At least Myers and Renfroe can give more defensively to both AL and NL teams ... better markets.
I would be more interested to have the Padres take the risk of his bat being real ... which will increase his trade value (unless so good as we can live with his defense). I love the POTENTIAL of Cordero but not sure his bat is near ML ready ... and his big swing and miss tendency is a concern.
IF they move both Myers and Renfroe (not a real problem in my mind) they may need to add an interim solution until the prospects show 2 of them can perform on the ML level.
However, if the Padres move a Margot in a Syndergaard deal and Myers in a Segura deal ... that may close out the move of another OF off the roster ... but may increase the desire to add an OF if Renfroe / Reyes / Cordero struggle since adding Segura / Leake / Syndergaard moves them to a win in 2020 mode and can't do that with weak links in the corner OF slots.
A lot of scenarios ... needing a lot of dominoes to fall right ... all still long shots (yet plausible).

Guys like Reyes and Naylor have more value in a trade to an AL team due to their defensive limitations/liabilities.
Even Myers in my opinion.
If he could DH for 30-40 games a season would limit his ability to get hurt.

How much value does Urias have in a trade with either Seattle or the Mets?
If we get Segura he could play 2b with Tatis at SS.

Why is everybody so hot to trade Renfro ?
He is a average outfielder with a plus arm and he has crazy Power to Dead Center and Left
That is the one guy I would not trade because as soon as you do the team he goes to won't play games with him they will just put him in the line up everyday and get 30 plus HR a year

I don't anyone is hot to trade Renfroe. It just that RH power hitting OF is a position of depth as is C. You deal from excess to fill positions of need such as SP and left side of IF. If they do trade Myers i think they hold Renfroe unless absolutely needed in another deal that would make the Pads better even without Renfroe.
Add that Hunter's profile (big pop, low OBP and weak defense) is pretty easy to find nowadays with the juiced ball and all the bandboxes out there. His appeal is he is cheap and has years of control.
As you pointed in the other thread, there is no reason they couldn't sign or deal for a vet if they needed to deal two OF.

I want to go on record by saying that Reyes, to me, is untouchable. I know his defense isn't any good but I think his bat is special. The power is phenomenal and he demonstrated some very important improvements to his game in the last two months of the season (patience, lower K rate, contact rate, etc).
We live with his poor glove in the OF, and when the DH comes to the NL while he's still under our control we have our very own David Ortiz ready to mash.
