I still hold out hope for a trade with Atlanta for Austin Riley.

They are very close to contending and have no place for him unless Camargo gets hurt.

He may be better than Camargo....but are you gonna sit/trade your 24 year old starting 3b who had a really good year

for a guy without a major league AB?

And if so....trade us Camargo.

I could see a deal with Atlanta. Agree that it would be hard for Atlanta to deal Camargo as a contender and Camargo being young and coming off a plus season. Not sure how Atlanta's front office views Riley ... seen some very differing reports on his potential but if the price is right (for the Padres) he would be a worthy gamble.

If Atlanta does not resign Markakis (toss-up) they will be looking for a RF .... Renfroe - Riley seems somewhat balanced (both have similar offensive profiles). Going back to the well ... Atlanta has some money to use and a quality farm system of pitching so a Myers - Riley+ deal would seem feasible.

Comp for Riley is Troy Glaus.

May not hit for a high average but makes up for it with OBP and power.

I think I'd be Ok with a .850 OPS at 3b.

Seems he's worked hard to make himself a good defender at 3b also.

Since I highly doubt the Reds would trade Senzel how about we just deal for Eugenio Suarez?

What is this guys contract situation?

Would cost a lot in prospects then cause that's pretty cheap for his production.

Get er done AJ!

An article in the UT the other day said the Padres covet Suarez. I'd think for the Padres he'd be a more attractive target, someone that has already proven himself at the big league level that's cheap and fits right into our long term plan. It'd be fun to trade for Senzel, but at some point we've got to buoy our prospects with some big league talent.

I agree.

Obviously not living in SD I don't see the local gossip.....glad to hear it is at least being broached.

The Reds have to do something to get Senzel on the field I guess....either at 3b or 2b.

I'd take either Suarez or Gennett for that matter.

We can worry about what to do with Potts if/when we need too.

Here's the relevant quote for you out of towners (link):

According to a person familiar with the Padres’ offseason interests, among the players the team covets is Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez, a 27-year-old who is under team control through 2025 and is coming off his first All-Star appearance. A.271/.367/.493 hitting line and 60 home runs over the past two seasons combined with the contract that pays Suarez $61.46 million over the next six seasons and carries a $15 million option for ‘25 would require the Padres to give up a hefty bounty in trade.

The Reds need a lot, especially starting pitching. The Padres are rich in pitching prospects and also have a couple controllable pitchers who just finished their rookie seasons. The Reds are also reportedly considering parting ways with center fielder Billy Hamilton, which would shake up their outfield.

So, MLBTR the Cubs are willing to "listen" on Bryant. Supposing the haul of prospects would be close to similar, who would you rather have, Suarez or Bryant.
