Hosmer's money comes off the books after 2025. A new TV deal could increase spending power again. We supposedly made a competitive offer to Lee. Prospects emerging at the major league level should let us narrow the focus of our spending. They should be able to keep Kim if they want to.

I also think Bogaerts gets unfairly blamed for the current financial situation. He performed to expectations. It's not his fault Cronenworth and Manny fell off. Looking at some of the underlying data I'm much more concerned about them than Bogaerts moving forward.

Its not Bogaerts himself or his performance that is the issue. You're right, its not his fault he took an ill advised contract, almost anyone would have taken that offer.

It is the issue that SD overpaid for him, and at a position that was already well covered at the time in Tatis, Kim, and Merrill was hot and coming even then. SD hampered itself for a player that simply was not needed on this team. And it is now money that can not be deployed in other areas of need.

Even if all the prospects pan out, the new TV deal comes out gold, and Kim is signed to an extension. It will still be the reason that SD could not even think about keeping Soto and had to trade him this offseason.

However in all likelihood, Kim will depart via FA, most of the prospects will not pan out, the TV contract will barely be more than it was in 2022. And it will still be money that will be needed for other positions. Especially since Machado and Bogaerts are both around the same age, and will eventually be fighting for the same DH position down the road. $56M a year in AAV for two RHH DHs is not a good look.

There's a rumor out there that we offered Roberto Osuna a contract, but that he's choosing to play in Japan.

I don't care to win with someone like that on the team, and the thought that the Padres (allegedly) tried to moneyball domestic violence is extremely disappointing.

Pretty sure you’re thinking of Marcell Ozuña the outfielder for the Braves.

Didn't see this posted, but the Padres finally announced their ML coaching staff.

Tim Leiper is our 3b Coach and infield instructor.

Mike McCoy and Pat O'Sullivan are assistant hitting coaches.

Morgan Burkhart is the Major League Coaching Assistant.

Peter Summerville is the "Game Planning & Coaching Assistant"

David Macias, Ben Fritz, Ruben Niebla and the previously announced Victor Rodriguez are all in there, as well.

No Bench Coach .

I wonder how many other teams don’t have one?

Well him too, but Osuna was suspended 75 games for violating the league's domestic abuse policy after alleged battery of the mother of his child while playing in Toronto (the mother and child both fled to Mexico and have refused to come back).

But whether it's Osuna, or Ozuna, or Chapman or Bauer or Urias or any of the other trash out there that have exhibited similar behavior, they don't have a place here in San Diego.

As Jeremy said he’s not the one that regressed.

If Cronenworth and Machado  have great seasons we make the playoffs easily and who knows….maybe win a series or two.

Then no one is talking about this anyway.

I believe it was always a “go all in for ‘23” plan all along….which was why they signed X after Turner and Judge declined. The plan was to get the best bat they could and try and win it all in ‘24 for Seidler.

Always was the plan to scale back in ‘24 and beyond….obviously because they weren’t going to keep incurring penalties and because spending in the top 3 in MLB is not realistic for San Diego.

We all know you hate the X signing…but he was not the issue and we don’t know if he will ever be.

The Cronenworth deal seems like much more of a “blunder” at this point to me…esp if the plan is to leave him at 1b.

I have always said I think we trade Merrill while his value is high but at the same time I could see trading Kim and keeping Merrill for 2b or even 3b.

Prellers “plan” to get as many SS’s as possible because they are the best athletes on the field(generally) isn’t that bad of an idea.

Move them….trade them…there will always be value more so than a 1B/Corner OF type.

Always teams looking for a SS.

I can’t wait to see what happens the next two months….we gotta do “something” to fill out the lineup now that the pitching seems settled.

I dont hate the signing, it was the wrong signing for this team. I get going for it in 2023 for Siedler, and hats off to him for signing checks. I just think there was a better use of $25M than for another SS.

You mention "IF" when it comes to Crone and Machado. What "IF" we didnt move Crone to 1B does he regress at his All Star position of 2B? Does Kim's better defense at SS win two more games? Hell, even Tatis season wasnt what we expected, although even without Bogaerts, many thought a change to the OF was going to happen. And to be honest, the entire team struggled most of the season, it wasnt until the return of Profar that they finally started playing like a playoff team. Which was too little, too late.

Like you say, now we have to do something to fill out the line up. What "IF" we had $25.5M more to spend this offseason? Do we still have Soto instead of a hole in LF. Or we could have made a better run at Lee. Or could we afford Bellinger in CF with $25.5M per season. Or "IF" we still traded Soto, could we get a Soler or Rosario or someone else in LF/DH or 1B. Or, or, or....lots of things that we could do with $25.5M, that we can not do know.

More important than all that….what is our new relief pitcher going to put on the back of his jersey?

Go's deal came in way cheaper than I expected. Only 4.5m over 2 years.

GO! … and when he comes in a game it will be “Go Time!” If he is any good … I see the marketing department “GO”ing nuts.

Ric Flair is on Cameo. The Padres should pony up the $500 to get him to make a Wooooooooooo Suk Go video.
