I think this year is going to be the exact opposite of last year's FA market: it's going to move VERY quickly, which in turn will get the trade market rolling... Of course both teams & players would rather decisions made early than late in FA, but the dynamic in this market is just completely different than last year with: FA SP strong: "everyone" needs pitching, many teams in on even the most expensive guys; Nats likely to sign one or both of Rendon & Stras, etc. Not the '30 teams waiting to see what happens with the 2 mega FA with limited # of teams involved' before doing anything market of last year....
Good chance Pads roster looks completely different by the time the Rule 5 draft rolls around.
And Stras telling everyone he wants to sign quickly.. I can see this year being totally oposite last yr.. Grandal best C signed.. Orodozzi accepts Q offer.. Will Smith best BP closer FA signed.. Dominos falling all around

Not to worry in 2021 the Padres will have the elite (but low cost controllable) SP of Gore, Patino, Paddack, Lamet, and one of Quantrill / Morejon / Lawson on their way to the playoffs.

Padres hire Ryan Flaherty as their Quality Control coach .... 33 and apparently retiring from Baltimore ... former teammate of Machado. Qualifications?
Goes with hiring away from Baltimore coaches Bobby Dickerson and Wayne Kirby who had long term association with Machado.
Other than the connection to Machado ... not sure the linkage that got them to the Padres. Maybe fine as coaches so no real judgement since know little about them as coaches. Dickerson and Kirby were there during Baltimore’s winning cycle and for Machado’s peak years.
Past 3 years Baltimore losses have been 87 - 115 - 108 (2019) so not a ringing endorsement although not likely their fault. Padres losses were 91 - 96 - 92 (2019).
I guess if these moves benefit Machado (#1 asset) to return to peak performance ... that is good ... doubt any real downside to these moves.

Well Bad teams have good Coaches too... Lets not forget Dave Roberts and AJ Hinch were part of really bad Padres teams

AJ Hinch should be suspended for five years at least. Not on same level with Doc or virtually any other ML manager. Garbage human being.
