Rumors are we are interested in Korean SS Kim.

Talented player....but does this make any sense?

My only guess is AJ is working two steps ahead and maybe there is a potential trade in the works involving Cronenworth?

I don’t see any other reason we would be considering paying starter money for a middle infielder right now.

Amyone else heard anything or have any other ideas why we would be interested here?

Is there anyone Preller is not “interested in”?

Given the expected money involved ... can’t see Kim as a Padre BUT could see the logic if they see Kim as the everyday 2B (and elite level) and Cronenworth becomes the “super utility” INF then when the NL DH arrives ... allows for a rotation through the DH role with the other INF.

Another Kevin Acee report on the Padres interested in Yu Darvish ($23MM in 2021 then $19MM, $18MM for 3 control years). Steep contract to acquire.

Suggested that the Padres may try to move either Myers or Pham to the Cubs to offset Darvish’ contact. Can’t see the Cubs taking the two remaining years of Myers ($20MM, $20MM, $1MM buyout) but could see them taking Pham for one year at about $8MM. Remember Cubs are apparently trying to move payroll and acquire prospects. However, moving either one would create a corner OF hole not likely filled with Ona, O’Grady, or Mejia if they plan on contending.

Sounds like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

Someone from Chicago media tweeted out that it was a package built around Morejon for Darvish and cash.

If Morejon is the only top prospect going over, I cant imagine they send over more than a few mil.

If the deal was Morejon, Tirso, and Steven Wilson for Darvish and $10 mil (maybe $5 mil/yr) do you do the deal assuming it means that the Padres would be unable to sign anyone else the rest of the offseason outside of MAYBE Yates on a 1 yr/2 mil deal.  (So no Profar, No Rostenthal, etc..)

We just got Snell for Patiño Wilcox Hunt and Mejia!

I hate four for one trades but in this case I am good with this one......Moving Mejia is great....he had no position and was not a Catcher, Patino will be good but Snell already is, Wilcox may be the one that hurts long term....Think Fried and Hunt was behind Campusano so good move.

Rotation of Snell, Lamet, Davies, Paddack and Gore.......I like it with Morejon and Weathers right there

Nice move AJ

Also opens up a 40 man spot. Signing coming?

Did not see that coming.  Padres gave up a lot in Patino.  As far as who wins the trade might hinge on if Patino ends up being a reliever.  He still is super young and has time to develop.  IMO he could be every bit as good as Snall, BUT its a big IF.

Mejia seemed out of favor in SD, I hope he develops in Tampa.  He is a good guy (and one of the few baseball players in the world that I could say I am taller than).

So....is AJ done in the Starting pitching department?

I don't think so.

The fact he was rumored to be in on Darvish means $20 mil was not too much to improve this team.

He was able to get Snell for basically $12...I'm thinking he made this deal instead of going for Yu for the sole purpose of allowing for another addition.

If Lamet is not 100% for the entire season we are still in trouble.

We have now traded a "huge" amount of our Farm away in the last 10 months and we can't just sit on our laurels now.

I'm thinking we are still going to go after Sugano and if that doesn't happen we would still be interested in Paxton/Quintana/Kluber/Walker or at the minimum we will add a lower cost SP like Hamels or Teheran late in the process.

We need some guaranteed(as much as there is such a thing) innings at least at average production from somewhere still.

We have gained one roster spot so that helps as well....

Molina to catch?

Nola is not catching every game ... not the biggest guy and not a career catcher ... would be worn down by August and a stretch run.

Campusano is a prospect .... who played in A+ .... good chance he will be way over matched in the ML at this stage of his career

Zero insurance in the upper minors ... Rivas? Cantu? Overstreet? Realmuto is way way out of the price range and little else on the FA market.

With (hopefully): Snell (L); Lamet; Davies; Paddack being effective in four of the SP slots and Gore (L); Weathers (L); Morejon (L); Baez; and Lucchesi (L) in the mix for the 5th slot (and for call-up as injuries mount during the season) .... might have to turn their attention to position players.

Need a back-up catcher ... need to strengthen the bench ... need to strengthen the pen ....if they want to contend. Now a bigger issue IF the NL DH is approved (like Mejia or not he could have served the back-up catcher / DH role).

Some payroll space still left (we think) .... contender quality back-up catcher, RHH INF bench option, and RP ... that is not cheap and should eat up the rest of the money.
