Does anyone know the status of Confroto's health? Has he had a showcase to show he is recovered?

I know Boras said he could sign last August ... but no takers ... so maybe some doubt (at least at the money requested). Would guess that most teams will want their medical staffs to review the shoulder and most likely want to see a workout our two before taking the plunge.

A one year contract at a biggish salary is a gamble for the team (great for the player to build value for the following year FA). Teams may want a 2 year deal to allow full recovery (and performance) in 2023 and reap some real benefit in 2024 ... but Boras may not like that. One year plus a club option may work.

I can see the $12MM AAV on Profar (sort of like Canha last year) but cannot see 4 years even at this younger age.

I would not not that deal.

I'll admit, that when I saw the NY Post where they were thinking that Conforto would get $14M for one year, I was shocked. I thought it would be around $15-16M for two years, the first year being a little cheaper since the team would be more at risk. And the second for some larger dollars on an option, where IF Conforto stays healthy and performs he has some options.

One year at $14M, I would pass on Conforto. Health is too big a question for those dollars. Rather get Benintendi for $14 or Bell for $17.

So then in your scenario Tatis is in the OF for sure.

With Conforto also on your list I assume that puts Tatis in CF?

I'll be honest...I completely forgot about Conforto.

Yeah, it would in that scenario, Tatis would be CF.

Sign Conforto, Tatis in CF, trade Grisham?? Sign Conforto, Tatis at SS, and trade Kim?? Like I said, I waffle still?!?!!?!?

Or is it best to Conforto LF, Grisham CF, Soto RF, and Machado, Tatis, Kim, and Crone, with Berti as a super sub playing 3 or 4 positions, and a couple of DH days?

What could Grish net us? SANTENDER?.. DH/COF..switch hitter..helps the SLG

Guessing that Bell is looking for Qualifying Offer type money (19.65 million) even if he is not eligible to receive a QO.  Probably his last chance before his body goes bad to reel in some big bucks.  Bell that the Padres had is not worth 17 million or more unless heavily incentive laden with club options in a 2nd and 3rd year.  I'm still looking at SP first before considering hitters and I believe that is the direction most teams will go.  A "pass" on Conforto but if you can get Benintendi for $14 million, I think he may be the kind of hitter to fit into our current projected line-up.

If anyone wanted him ... a minor leaguer or an over priced fringe MLer.

Getting back to the contest:

  1.  Senga
  2. Davies
  3. Abreu
  4. Strahm
  5. Quintana

I dont think BAL would want Grisham at all. They have Mullins for CF, and Hays who I believe is also capable of CF.

Do you see Strahm as a SP or RP?

I would be so nervous with Strahm just because of injuries. His knee was so balking here in SD, it seemed like he was on the IL half of the time here. I guess it would be based on his price tag, if it were worth the gamble.

It appears the knee or knees were much better and stabilized last year with Boston.  I kind of like Strahm as a swingman, ala Martinez, but I believe his history indicates he is much more effective as a RP - one that can go multiple innings.  So if Martinez opts out and we can sign Strahm to a contract that is less than or equal to what Martinez would be getting had he opted in, then I think that might better than a wash.  Also gives us some insurance on Pomeranz not being ready from the left side as the higher leverage RPs leading up to Hader; Hill and Castillo probably not ready for that role and might see Morejon tried as a SP.  If we can keep Suarez, then we have options of Garcia, Crismatt and maybe even re-signing Johnson from the right side along with darkhourse Felipe and a developing Wilson.  So, I'm willing to try Strahm as a SP but prefer the others I listed before him.
