Off season prediction contest!

Page 1 of 5Next

Let’s have some fun.

Choose 5 players….in order of certainty…who will be Padres by Opening Day.

They can’t be a player who was on the roster on the last day of the season.

So Luke Voit and Eric Hosmer😉 are eligible but Wil Myers and Josh Bell are not.

Obviously predicting a trade is much more difficult than a free agent signing so….

If your #1 choice becomes a Padre via free agency you get 5 points…if it’s via trade it’s 10 points.

If your #2 choice becomes a Padre via free agency it’s worth 4 points and via trade 8…and so on.

This will go right up until Opening Day as a trade could still take place…unless all picks are free agents then it will end after every player chosen has signed somewhere.

For the winner I will send them a PSA 9 or PSA 10 baseball card of Machado,Tatis or Soto from my personal collection.

I’ll start.

1.Michael Brantley

2.Nathan Eovaldi

3.Martin Perez

4.Zach Davies

5.Joc Pederson

  1. Jose Quintana
  2. Michael Conforto
  3. Nelson Cruz
  4. Zach Davies
  5. Jon Berti - Trade

Would love to see Berti in brown!

Where do you see him playing everyday or would he move all around?

Interesting..that Yu was Senga's Mentor.. 5/65 prediction I'll take that.. they have Profar at 4/48.. Bell 3/51 and C Vazquez at 3/33 as possible Padres targets as well.. Interesting but I say move on from Profar

1. SENGA

2. JOC

3. Vazquez

4. Eovaldi

5. JD Martinez

Lot of Red Sox ties lol

Is it cheating if I wait until after option decisions are made?

It would depend on who was sent to MIA for Berti, and if it creates any holes in the ML line up for SD. But my initial thought would be is that Berti is probably best at 2B, and in that case, Kim at SS, Berti at 2B, and Crone slides to 1B.

And although his OBP is not great for a lead off hitter (career .335 OBP), but with his base stealing ability and the new pitch clock/throw over rules, he seems like a prime lead off candidate with Soto and Machado to follow. Of course he could bat 9th, and then you could have both him and Tatis on base at the same time wreaking havoc with their legs!

So then in your scenario Tatis is in the OF for sure.

With Conforto also on your list I assume that puts Tatis in CF?

I'll be honest...I completely forgot about Conforto.

Picks have to be in "before" the first free agent signing.

Yeah, it would in that scenario, Tatis would be CF.

Sign Conforto, Tatis in CF, trade Grisham?? Sign Conforto, Tatis at SS, and trade Kim?? Like I said, I waffle still?!?!!?!?

Or is it best to Conforto LF, Grisham CF, Soto RF, and Machado, Tatis, Kim, and Crone, with Berti as a super sub playing 3 or 4 positions, and a couple of DH days?
