I just went back and looked through the thread. Booster got Nelson Cruz and he had him at 3 while I had Carpenter at 4. Looks like there's a new leader in the clubhouse.
I wonder how different our picks would have looked if we would have known our payroll would get this high. It doesn't look like anyone really expected us to play at the top of the market like we did.
I feel good about my thought process. I picked Carpenter because he fits the disciplined hitter profile they seem to like and I thought he would still be affordable. I picked Drew Rucinski because I thought he could be another AJ bargain special coming back from overseas and there were reports that they were in on him. I picked Trevor Williams because he was a local kid who has been good out of the pen and had experience as a starter. I thought they might try to do what they're seemingly set to try with Martinez and Lugo with him.
Then again you probably could have given me 100 picks and I wouldn't have picked Xander.
