Off Season Moves and discussion

I saw that article and was surprised the idea that Soler might be in line for 3 years / $36MM ($12MM AAV) … not so much the AAV but the 3 years.

If we are not blinded by the excellent finish to 2021 and look at his career offense … for a DH .. might gamble for 1 year or 2 years but 3 may be stretching and potentially get in the way of future adds.

Would be surprised if any team went 3 years … especially since he is still on the market without a lot of suitors. But these contract usually surprise me.

I think what's being triggered right now is our collective trauma of being Padres fans (myself since 1982). The thought of being rebuffed and the perception of digging in the bottom of the barrel is bringing  back really negative emotions.

Well Finn, your thought of Voit has some merit to it, according to MLBTR, SD is considering Voit as a target.

We just got him for Justin Lange.

Luke Voit...........Championship!!!

Right handed power guy for the #8 prospect....Right Handed Pitcher.....compared to all the moves the other teams in the NL West have made....this one barely moves the needle but it fills the DH spot so hopefully he knocks a few bricks out of the Western Metal building....welcome to "Slam" Diego Luke

We still need Soler or Meadows or Reynolds.

OK with this ... Voit is a legit ML bat (maybe not great but legit with power) filling a gigantic need on the roster ... has 3 years under control via arbitration (est 2022 at $5.4 which does not break the bank).

In Lange ... yes big potential but has yet to pitch much do to injury and not yet out of Rookie ball ... IF he develops maybe 4 years away.

Actually Voit would cost more.

I liked Lange and hate parting with prospects, but at least we're trying to get something done.

He had a handful of injuries last year, but he was legitimately great with the Yankees from 2018-2020. He also has well balanced splits. Should be a big upgrade for our lineup.
