Another bottle of beer off the wall:

Joc Pederson is signing with the Giants.

I cannot stand that guy. Glad he didn't somehow find his way onto the Padres.

After the lackluster trade deadline last year and the lack of any movement thus far, it seems as though Preller has been told he can’t spend any more.  Perhaps his job is in jeopardy if no playoffs this year.  Kind of a put up or shut up season.

OR

These free agents are just getting too big of contracts and teams are asking too much for trades.

It just seems strange to sit here and watch each team in the division get better while the Pads stand pat.

I have zero doubt AJ Preller has been absolutely hammering the phone lines and turning over all the stones trying to make something happen but 1) we are absolutely in a players' market right now and are getting outbid left and right, and 2) we've obviously hit a tolerance threshold for how much we're willing to drain the farm system

Also... it feels as though the Padres' offseason plans were entirely centered on Suzuki. If that's truly the case, and it was essentially Suzuki or bust, then getting outbid at roughly $3m/season seems shortsighted and silly.

I'm really not sure where we go from here. It sure feels like we're going to end up with something disappointing like Pham for another year, an overpriced Soler, and the loss of Hassell just to shed Hosmer and his salary.

Well Hell.....Bryant to Colorado and Pederson to the Giants.....we missed out as both would have been good fits

Pitching is something we do have to consider.

Does anyone believe our rotation in 4 years will all be with homegrown arms?

So yes,we are built to win in the next 2-3 years max and then it’s rebuild the rotation.

Plus,we are talking about FOUR affordable years of an All Star LF who could hit 1 or 2 in the lineup ahead of Tatis and Machado.

Also, again,it may not take that much anyway

So,it’s been a rough few days and I don’t know if this will help….or lead to more disappointment.

But,I’ve heard that the Padres have a deal in place with Freeman contingent on us moving Hosmer “or” Myers.

If true….surely we could get one of these moves done with the right prospect package right?

Maybe it will hurt in prospects but since no one else seemed willing to give him 6 years…and his options are running low….and he wants to be in SoCal…I’m guessing it could be just a 4 year deal.

Like I said….don’t want to get anyones hopes up cause so far it’s been a bust but I had to at least mention it.

In case I end up right!😉

Reports are out that he's closing in on a deal with the Dodgers.

Yeah I saw that just now.
Thought about deleting….but I’ll own it if he does.

Guess AJ said he can’t move those guys after all…..or rather won’t.

Cause he could if he wanted to give up the prospects.

Also….of course he is!

If we can’t get him…or anyone…the Dodgers are bound too!

Seemingly 5/150. The Padres should get off their asses and match that tonight. Freeman to the Dodgers on top of us doing nothing would be f*cking devastating.

I am supremely frustrated right now.

Nevermind. 6/160.

Inexcusable to let the dodgers get away with that. If you can't hang with the other teams spending big money then don't f*cking play at that level. What's the point of spending all this money and prospect talent if we can't push across the finish line?
