Wow!

Mariners To Acquire Jesse Winker, Eugenio Suarez From Reds

This is crazy.

AJ must have just not been interested in Winker.

In hindsight trading for Winker to play LF and Suarez to handle 3b until FTJ is back and then DH seems like it would be a good idea when you see what the Mariners gave up.

No way we were interested if that’s all it took……Winker is a beast and still in Arb.

I’m sure the issue was Suarez who had a terrible 21’….his BA no OBP we’re not good.

But Winker makes up for it IMO….esp. considering the low cost in players.

New tweet from Suzuki … no decision on a team yet (this per Dennis Lin).

So … things could get worse.

So…the Mariners get Winker.

They now have Winker,Kelenic,Haniger,Kyle Lewis and Julio Rodriguez ready.

Anyone else wondering if Hangier is up for trade?

Maybe if they think Rodriguez is ready … #2 prospect in MLBPipeline and crushed it in AA last season. Haniger is in his last season of control … arb estimate at $8.5MM. Note that Lewis is coming off a lost season with a major knee issue … so don’t think they are relying on him.

If they moved Haniger … likely for a good SP now (or a very good ML ready prospect).

What would you pay (and why would SEA take that offer) for Haniger while they are building for the playoffs? Not as though the need or want to get rid of him in his last year.

I wonder if Votto would sign off on a trade to get out of Cincy. He's owed 25m a year for the next 2 years and has a 7m buyout on a 20m option after that. Basically the same total guarantee as Hosmer over a shorter time. They also have Moustakas effectively owed 38m for the next 2 years. I wonder if they would take something like Hosmer and Profar for those 2 plus Tyler Naquin just to cut even more salary.

Any word on why Machado  is not in camp?

Had not heard that.

Most seem to think that Freddie Freeman’s signing will open the flood gates for the rest of the premium bats. However, at some point the teams and other FA will just move forward given the season is coming … something for Freeman’s camp to consider.

Possibly Freeman’s camp has already over played their position … trying to play ATL, LAD, NYY against each other for a bigger contract. Then, ATL bolts and trades for Olson and NYY make a deal for Donaldson and seem to reset for Rizzo. That sort of leaves LAD (or a mystery team) so surprising that Freeman has not locked down a deal unless the LAD knowing they are the last team standing will not bid against themselves and sit on a low offer. If that is the case, could a “mystery team” (especially with the NL DH) re-enter the fray? At one time TOR and TEX were interested … can’t rule out ATL if Freeman lowers his demand years … and a real wild card (post Tatis) SD (Hosmer to DH if not dealt) to provide longer term offense and keep him out of LA. Sort of a version of Randy Myers?

Apparently Tor is now in on Freeman as well.

Freeman is Canadian and played on their International team as a youth.

So I assume them getting into the bidding has delayed his decision.

But yes...Manny is not in Camp and there has been no word on why as of yet.

Sure hope it isn't a big deal and he arrives soon!
