Quote from fenn68 on March 14, 2022, 11:31 amQuote from fenn68 on March 14, 2022, 11:21 amReport is that OAK is trading Olson to ATL and that should set a lot in motion with Freeman and Rizzo. LAD and NYY respectively. Not sure who else may be in on a 1B … earlier rumors included TOR and TEX but doubt either step in for those two.
OAK gets ATL’s #1, #2, #6, and #14 prospects.
Pache, CF … MLB #38
Langeliers, C .. MLB #69
and two RHP
Not bad for OAK.

Quote from MrPadre19 on March 14, 2022, 11:42 amSo now we have to hope the Yankees(or someone) outbid the Dodgers for Freeman right.
If they add Freeman no one will beat them at least for the Division.
Im afraid he wants to be in SoCal so not sure how anyone else gets him.
Ugh!
They lose Seager and just add Freeman to make up for it.

Long-shot if the new pitching coach unlocks Adams who has the stuff … Adams.
No better option out there as FA … unless you like Jansen at a very high cost … money need for the bats.
You don’t think Kerr is part of the 7th inning on?
I’m thinking that’s the very reason we wanted him.
Or is he in the Minors to start the season?

So, does that push Freeman to LA?
We're kind of screwed with Tatis( dummy!) out for 3 months but Freeman just makes the Duds more hate able...........

Yeh, Kerr could be in the mix and since it appears Pomeranz (who was also in theory an end of game arm) starts on the IL, Kerr is very likely to make the roster as a LHRP.
Might want to work him in slowly (mid-innings) until he gets his ML feet wet … unless he is just lights out out of the blocks.
In the same mode, although off the 40 man, Castillo could pop back in as a LHRP for the end of the game without Pomeranz. Hill is the only established LHRP in the mix then Kerr - Weathers - Castillo (at least two) fill out the LH side of the pen until Pomeranz returns.
The next for weeks then maybe the first month of the season will sort out the end of game options for the rest of the season.

Quote from MrPadre19 on March 14, 2022, 12:28 pmI'm guessing we do sign Suzuki which would not leave any $ for Bryant...if he was ever really a possibility.
So I'm sure the plan is to play Kim at SS but how great would it be if Abrams kills it in ST and they decide to give him the position?
Please let this happen.
It would be the only thing to take some of the sting out of this news....well,that and us playing along with the Duds and Gnats for the first two months.

Quote from sportwarrior on March 14, 2022, 12:36 pmI'm pissed about Tatis - both because he was stupidly riding motorcycles and because of the friggin lockout prevented him from being seen by team doctors - but I'm also still weirdly optimistic. Kim wasn't any good at the plate last year, but getting a solid 2-3 month chunk of regular playing time will give him a nice make-or-break period. If we can also land Suzuki and a true DH, I'm fairly confident we can weather the first few months of the season without him.
As for pitching, on the other hand... Has there been any word on finalizing the contract with Nick Martinez? I still think we need another de[th starter beyond him... like a Danny Duffy or Zach Davies. I'm paranoid about going through another nightmare stretch like we did to close out the season.

Quote from fenn68 on March 14, 2022, 12:44 pmTwo bats yes but no real need for a true DH … Melvin has said he has managed the DH role with a pure DH if he had one worth it and rotated players if that was the best option. Sort of depends (assuming they sign Suzuki for RF) who is the best bat available at a workable price. The advantage of a position player is that if one of the OF (thin group as is) gets injured that player could step in. The chance of Myers - Grisham - Suzuki playing the season without injury is remote and as it stands Profar - Mazara step in since no one in AAA to rely on. Easier to mix and match players for a DH role than a position.

Quote from sportwarrior on March 14, 2022, 12:48 pmThere's a report from a Japanese sports paper called Nikkan Sports that Suzuki has agreed with the Padres for something to the tune of 5/70 with a 3rd year opt-out and a 6th year option. According to Google, Nikkan Sports is the oldest sports paper in Japan and is affiliated with Asahi Shumbun, the fourth largest newspaper in Japan.
Sooo... Maybe legit? But also why would it not have been picked up here yet?
