Quote from fenn68 on November 27, 2021, 8:52 amPadres trade Adam Frazier to Seattle …. save about $7.5MM in ARB.
Return:
Corey Rozier … 22 … LHH OF … drafted 12th round last year … ended up in Low A and hit 390/401/585. Might be something there.
Ray Kerr … 27 … LHRP … just filler but LHRP are useful to have around was on Seattle’s 40 man … might spell the end for Strahm (non-tender?) … Kerr has minor league options.
========
We should be on the alert for the follow up move by Preller … which is probably in the works for a LF / DH with the added $7.5MM to work with.
As it stands, Padres sitting with Profar in LF … probably Campusano DH … Kim + Rosario + Caratini on the bench … leaving one open spot, not just on the 26 man but on the 40 man.

Quote from fenn68 on November 27, 2021, 9:11 amMaybe Kerr is a bit more than filler ... at least an upside gamble per MLBTradeRumors:
In exchange for one season of Frazier, the Mariners are sending hard-throwing southpaw reliever in Kerr and a young outfielder in Rosier. At 27 years old without a Major League appearance, Kerr could be considered a non-prospect, though his ability to hit triple-digits on the radar gun leaves some intrigue to his future as a potential power arm out of the bullpen. He tossed 39 2/3 innings across 36 appearances in Double-A and Triple-A last season with a combined 3.18 ERA, inspiring 36.8 percent strikeout rate, and 9.8 percent walk rate. For a Padres team that’s prioritizing pitching depth this offseason, Kerr is a solid gamble to add to the 40-man roster.
Non-tender of Strahm looking possible but also maybe some LHRP insurance if Castillo and/or Pomeranz are not healthy coming out of ST.

Quote from MrPadre19 on November 27, 2021, 9:45 amI realize this move was to clear some payroll…still seems we could have got more.
We’ll see.
I am still pro Preller so the benefit of the doubt should be given.
It would seem he has a deal “in the works” or he wouldn’t have made this one.

Quote from lafnboy13 on November 27, 2021, 10:29 am7.5m + whatever Strahm would make in arb is a nice chunk of savings. It definitely seems like there's another move coming that does not require dumping Myers or Hosmer. Also, I recall Siedler's approach to budgeting and how he forecasts into the future. He could sign someone else of note knowing Myers is off the books next year.

Probably not much more given Frazier is only 1 year control and not a lot of teams pushing for a 2B at this point ... at least not to deploy a bit over $7MM vs other needs.

Frazier's $7MM+ ... then probably Strahm at about $2.1MM+ ... then possibly Lamet ($4.6MM+) and/or Pagan ($2.3MM+) non-tendered or traded ... maybe putting $15MM in play. Roster Resource has the 2022 payroll now down to $184MM so could go to $175MM.
My guess is the finally gave up trying to move Hosmer and Myers to clear money ... no buyers with the Padres eating a lot of money AND adding top prospects.
Good chance we see an add of a hitter before Dec 1 ... either via FA or trade ... with the non-tender deadline on Nov 30.
Wonder if the Padres are in on Suzuki ... the new "star" out of Japan. Most expect a 3-5 year deal for the RHH (he is only 28) in the mid-teens per season range. IF the scouts see him as being ML productive ... could be a good transition in RF as Myers departs after the season.

I would rather not trade Myers on his last year. Hosmer is a lost cause and hopefully he can platoon DH. In that scenario we would still need a 1B and LF. Campusano can be the righty platoon DH with Hosmer. As far as Suzuki goes, Kim's progression makes me not confident.

Quote from MrPadre19 on November 27, 2021, 11:33 amA’s rebuilding.
They also never completely throw in the towel.
Would they possibly consider a trade of Olson with Hosmer plus prospects plus money ?
Hosmer/Campusano/Lange/$30 mil?
They would basically have Hosmer for free for 2 years and add two good prospects.

Quote from MrPadre19 on November 27, 2021, 11:36 amI read somewhere they would consider trading Sean Murphy.
If they thought Campy could start they could move Murphy(about to hit Arb) and add another couple good prospects.
Knowing Preller he could even add Merrill and either Mears or Wood and expand the deal and grab a Starter.

Japanese League is a level or two higher than Korea and Suzuki also a level above Kim.
‘I’d like the signing esp. cause it’s just money…..and not mine.
