2024 NLDS Series: San Diego Padres vs Los Angeles Dodgers: Oct 5-11

The Dodgers nearly exhausted their BP. The only RPs that they did not use was RHP Edgardo Henriquez and RHP Ben Casparius.

The Padres still have LHP Martín Pérez, RHP Jason Adam, LHP Tanner Scott, and RHP Robert Suarez. Perez would have been better than Cease today. He has pitched well at Petco.

Probably true, but If Pérez pitched today and they lost, Cease would go on Friday, I have no idea how Darvish Is gonna do It, knowing Dodger hitter saw him on sunday, but, just the thought of having Cease in a winner take all scenario gives me a headache.

Well that was a letdown. Winner takes all on Friday in LA. They've been fighting all year. Let's hope they've still got some more in them. LFGSD!!!

Yes, it was a let down and I don't think I can trust Cease anymore.

Well that was a bummer. Woke up to a miserable result🫤

I trust Cease had never pitched in any high leverage situations whilst with the Sox? Does anyone have any faith in his ability to perform in such situations going forward? Does an off season and Spring Training with Niebla improve his odds of doing so?

With Cease having only 1 year left on his contract, does AJ pull a Juan Soto move and move him, in hopes of grabbing a better haul of prospects?

Hopefully the bats and arms come alive in LA on Friday night, and Dylan gets an opportunity to redeem himself. Otherwise, based on this post season, we may have seen the last of Dylan in Padre brown.

We are missing big game Joe Musgrove.  He would have started last night's game.  It sucks for him and the Pads.  Of course the Dog-ers have had a ton of starting pitching injuries as well.

It is win or go home time.  I hate these type of games because something fluky can determine the outcome of the game and thus the series.  Let's hope the baseball gods are behind us!  Go Pads!  Beat L.A.!

Since the history of pitchers going on 3 days rest is not good … I did not think starting Cease was the right move but give how Shildt has handled the staff this year was not in angst over the call.

Would have gone with Perez and the pen … Cease and Darvish ready for game 5.

I thought Preller might move Cease for payroll reasons earlier but now with Musgrove out for 2025 cannot see them going with only King and Darvish and looking for 3 pitchers at decent contracts to support this team.

Cease may be struggling now but over the season he is effective and the Padres will need to win enough games to make the 2025 playoffs.

Going to be tough to add the last two at a reasonable price. UNLESS they sign BOTH Sasaki and Sugaro.

Some players rise to the occasion while others sink. Cease's inconsistency has been a huge damper on what would have been an great season for himself.

I think it's ok to have a guy like Cease, as a number 3 or 4 of course. Unless we get a number 1 or 2 guy for next season, It will be very important to have Yu healthy for most of the season as a 38, 39 year old.

Game 5 - Padres at Dodgers: Friday, Oct 11 - 5:08pm, TV: FOX - San Diego Cox 5
RHP Yu Darvish(1-0, 1.29 ERA, 3 K, .136 BAA) vs RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto(0-0, 15.00 ERA, 1 K, .357 BAA)

The Padres have faced Yamamoto 3 times this season and have scored runs off him every time. They have scored a combined 13 ER off him in 9 IP this season. Five of those runs came in last Saturday's game in 3 IP. The Padres need to make sure to continue to score runs off him before Roberts takes him out after 2 or 3 innings.

Darvish had 6 starts since his return from the IL. In those starts, he has not given up more than 3 runs and the Padres won all 6. Let's keep it going Darvish and Padres.

GO PADRES!
