Hoping I’d wake up to another miracle come back.
No such luck....

Quote from Brian Connelly on October 7, 2020, 8:19 amTough game. I can't believe the error got pinned on Cronenworth; should have been on Hosmer.
Expected some BB's from Clev & debuting Weathers, but rest of the pen uncharacteristic. Tired? Scared of LAD hitters?
Really doesn't matter when we muster 3 hits (LAD only had 4). Their P is unbelievable. May's freaking ball moves so much he just looks unhittable.
Padres site great article on Kershaw: FB or Slider in the strike zone near 100% on 1st pitch; have to guess one, be aggressive, and freaking hack. If you stand there, you'll be 0-1 & odds fall off the table.
Knock him on his heels guys! Never give up!

Quote from Brian Connelly on October 7, 2020, 9:02 amNow what? Obviously Davies or Paddack for game 2. My instincts scream "Davies" as being MORE likely to be able to actually go 5+ IP & stay in the game. The back of the pen is well rested, and who ideally we would go to tonight.
I think you have to look out for Clevinger's long term health here. We need length/multiple innings. The options are: Baez, Perdomo, or Gore. Don't see how Gore isn't the best option. But you don't want to add Gore to roster unless it's 100% certain he would make a start; likely game 4. So don't pull the trigger on ANOTHER 40-man move until we win either game 2 or game 3, since it will cost someone their roster spot.
No "easy" 40-man moves, but a non-obvious one: Greg Garcia. Vet players would NOT like this; harsh to be released out of the playoff pool. But with our dire SP situation he is not going to be on the active roster the rest of the way, not going to be on next year's team, and do have Profar & Mateo as INF depth if injury happens. Otherwise it's probably David Bednar who someone will claim.
So the plan is: "Just" find a way to get to Kershaw tonight & stoke that "not the same guy in the playoffs talk". Davies frustrates them for 6 IP. Back of pen slams the door. Remove Clevinger from roster, add Gore. Paddack & Gore come up big and we avoid a Game 5. Or even "just" 1 of them wins, and we go all hands on deck bullpen Game 5 & crush their dreams that way!!
