National League Division Series

The really shocking thing about Campusano is that Mejia is "healthy".  Going with a guy who has caught 0 P in:  MLB, AAA, AA !!

... over Mejia.  Must REALLY like him &/or Mejia's thumb issue still a concern.

Great prospect... but so was Mejia!   Seems risky to me.  Mejia had a miserable offensive "season" but DID look better behind the plate I thought.

I would guess the reason is the Padres dont have a LHP scheduled to start?  But no idea

I think we wont know who game 2 starter is until after the game tonight.  If Clev can go 5+ and we win = Paddack game 2.  If Clev only lasts a couple of innings and/or we lose, Davies in Game 2.  I am sure Sunshine is on some sort of pitch count and/or if his speed is done or cant find home plate.

I feel fairly positive that Davies can go 6 IP keeping us in the game (even if he gives us 3).  Paddack you have the possibility he doesnt make it out of the 2nd again.  If youre up 1-0, you can take that chance that its possibly NL ROY Paddack.  If youre behind 1-0 you dont.

One of two things with Mejia......Either Mejia has got to be hurt much worse than anybody is letting on or he really isn't a MLB player with all hype aside....he is number four on the depth chart behind Nola,Castro and Campusano as a catcher and he isn't in the top six from a outfield standpoint and his hitting is suspect......where do you play the guy ?

I would much rather have Garcia on the roster for many reasons but Mejia is out and Garcia is off for this round.....given the choice for the NLCS, after we take out the Dodgers, who do you bring back......Mejia or Garcia or even Mateo ?

I will opt for Mejia handicapped by the injury and maybe “off” at the alternate site.

Looked back at last year and Mejia’s offensive stats were very good for a catcher.

Overall: 226 PA .... 265/316/438 (754 OPS) ... not a small sample size

vs RHP: 179 PA ... 261/313/461 (773 OPS)

vs. LHP: 65 PA .... 279/323/377 (700 OPS)

AWAY: 125 PA ... 287/344/487 (831 OPS)

HOME: 119 PA ... 243/286/307 (673 OPS) .... PETCO seems to be a drag on him

So, seems “hitting” for a healthy Mejia should not be the issue (maybe that future DH/ back-up 1B/back-up LF / back-up C. Still just 24.

I have felt Patino to MLB was too "cute"this year, as  Morejon  was last year; pissed off vets & deservedly so b/c Adrian hadn't really earned it.  Fact he's great at alt site, hype builds, then... eh.. not so much.

He HAS looked pretty calm & composed.  Anyway, point is, now going with Campusano over Mejia and Weathers over much older more experience guys has that feel too.   Extremely unlikely, but COULD have a P-C battery where NEITHER guy has played in the field at their position beyond High A making their debut in the playoffs against the team with the best record in baseball?

I'm playing devil's advocate a little bit here, b/c I do get the potential value of their huge upside talent in small, specific situations.... but it is outside the box

5-6 innings without an injury for Clevinger will be a success no matter the score.
Making Buehler throw 20 pitches in the first was a good start.

Four base runners in the first two innings and can’t score....not a good omen.

Spoiler
Great!

Now Clevinger is out and we’ve burned a roster spot for a five game series?

How does he throw bullpens without any ill affects and can’t go 30 pitches tonight?

Someone made a bad call on Clevinger.

Well if it was easy anybody could do it.......Our padres just have to man up and grind

The sky is blue, water is wet, and another starting effort thwarted.  Captain Obvious says hello on Clevinger lasting only one inning.
