I was a little surprised Naylor wasn't in the top 10 of Firstbasemen.

More this offseason than any other I've heard him described as maybe an OF but definitely "not a 1b." He sounds like a true DH type.

Not sure where you've heard/read that, but it's an awful assessment of Naylor's positional future.

IF Naylor hits in the ML ... he plays in the ML .... maybe not for the Padres and maybe 1B/LF/DH but he will play based on his bat.

Scan MLB and there just is always a need for quality bat and there are a lot of marginal defensive players getting a lot of regular work based on their bats. He was not "stone glove" at 1B and has only about 1/2 season as an OF while being just 21 ... a lot of development time to be serviceable at either position. Will never look pretty but if he hits ... few will care (see Schwarber).

he is actually pretty average at 1B (not bad) and a terrific hitter, with one of the best approaches in all of the minors. He reminds me of Cecil Fielder... and I could see him 1B/DH/LF... and with new CBA coming I am almost 100% sure DH in NL will be a concession by the owners to get a new deal done, as it creates 15 potential somewhat high paying ($15-$20mil per) Jobs at the MLB level..

Anyone have a link to bypass the subscription for Keith Laws new Prospect ranking on ESPN?

Has Tatis #1 apparently.

Yup.  Law's list is always a little weird...  He's got Tatis #1, then Vlad, Wander Franco (Rays), Whitley, Jimenez, Senzel, & Mackenzie Gore all the way up at #7 overall.   Mejia #29, Paddack #44, Morejon #46, Patino #50, Urias #56, Logan Allen #80.   7 top 56, 8 top 80.

Argument for Tatis > Vlad is Tatis lock at 3B at worst, Vlad DH at worst.

Josh Naylor's brother Noah @ #74.

I could see rating Tatis a bit higher due top position/defense and baserunning but I seriously doubt that would be enough to put him ahead of Guerrero. His hitting/power prospects far outweigh Tatis's advantages.

At least in my opinion.

Guerrero appears to be Miguel Cabrera+.

I agree.  I actually was one of the very few who had Gore ranked ahead of Tatis going into last year.  My belief was they were like #20, 21 overall but both with uber elite potential.  Definitely in the 100% consensus with Tatis 1, Gore 2 now(not everyone has Gore 2; I think nuts to put anyone else ahead of him).  But it would not surprise me at all if Gore is #5-10 overall next year; think Law is a little early here.  I don't follow other systems closely enough t0 even begin to try a top 100 overall, and do agree Tatis top 5 overall, but not 1, don't know if I'd put him 2.... being a Pads fan his meteoric rise scares me!

Also, Law listed about 15 "just miss" including Ryan Weathers @ #103.

Interesting little tidbit on Pads page via MLB.com, listing the top 4 teams if they fielded an all prospects team. SD narrowly took the top spot over the CWS and ATL. Interesting, he listed Allen as the premier catching prospect, and put Mejia in LF.

Sort of aligns with the reporter that suggested Miami did not see Mejia as a future ML catcher ... but loved his bat.

That also could be why Cleveland was testing Mejia at 3B (did not work well) and LF as a very young catching prospect rather than focus on developing him as a catcher ... they may have seen the future. Mejia does have the great arm so 3B/OF would be enticing I guess given his hitting projection.

Did you guys see the MLB Network show ranking the top 100?

They did a montage of Jim Callis and his "love affair" with Mackenzie Gore!

It was pretty funny but he absolutely LOVES Gore as a prospect and I would think he would list him at the top of the list next season if Tatis,Guerrero and Jimenez all graduate(which they should).

Although he absolutely LOVED Byron Buxton a few years ago too.(Still could be good)
