His demeanor in Peoria seemed to be pretty much what we've seen before. He's a focused worker on the field, and that didn't change in any noticeable way. John will be out in El Paso next week, so we'll have some more notes and observations at that point.
It is worth noting that small sample size applies even more than normal when you're talking about home run totals after a series with the wind blowing out at Cashman Field.
The wind was blowing out. That's what I needed to know. Yeah, the sample is also pretty small.
I keep waiting for the second coming of Nomar to materialize. I believe that's who KLaw compared him too when he was still with Boston.

Quote from Personal Fable on April 9, 2018, 11:04 pmIf Guerra's shoes weren't tied to his feet he'd be coming out of them in his sell out for power. Reyes has one of the slowest swings I've ever seen. It's a miracle he ever connects. I would expect Allen Craig to be released at some point. I can only presume sans injury that there's a lot of not giving a shit going on with his game.
Gettys, Naylor, and Allen have been hitting the ball pretty damn hard all series. Somewhere moonshot got lost in translation for Tatis, he thinks they're infield popups.

They're hitting .375 and .353, respectively...don't change a thing. They're doing something right.

When people say "don't scout the stat line," this is exactly what they mean.
Even if you ignore the fact that batting average is a mediocre way to evaluate a batter's success, and that 18 plate appearances isn't enough for any measurement to tell you anything, it's worth going back and watching footage of those two homers. Even with the lousy distance and angle on the camera, both were off awful pitches, and both were mediocre fly balls that carried in the launching pad at Cashman Field. The approach that's earned Javier his .375 average thus far, if he doesn't change a thing, is a recipe for a long, bad summer before being moved off the 40-man roster.
On an unrelated note, Meat is Murder is a stellar album. Johnny Marr is severely underappreciated.

1. You still have to get a decent piece of the bat to hit the ball out. Sure, his swings may not be great, but at least he's being successful this year (small sample size). Something we couldn't say in the past. He is still k'ing way too much.
2. Meat is Murder is amazing, especially Nowhere Fast.

Quote from David Jay on April 13, 2018, 6:50 amA handful of new releases from the organization:
Bryant Aragon - LHH catcher/1B was the organization's first international acquisition of the Preller era (signed out of Mexico in December, 2014). Big pull power, but struggled with contact and it seemed like he gave up on catching well before the organization wanted him to.
Luis Castro - Signed on 7/2/16, but unlike the rest of those guys, was an 18-year-old, previously eligible player. Undersized at corner outfield, really struggled to make contact in his one year in the organization.
Wilfri de la Cruz - Wilfri's been a plug-in catcher wherever the organization has needed for several years.
Alan Garcia - Originally taken out of high school as a 19th-rounder in Preller's first draft class, the left-handed hitter struggled and was converted to pitching full-time last spring. Things didn't go much better on that front.
Denzell Gowdy - late round draft pick from a small school in 2016. He was a great worker on the field, but struggled to make consistent contact and it's a bad organization to be a fringe infielder right now.

Quote from David Jay on April 16, 2018, 4:36 pmHe looked awesome in the two-inning appearance we saw fron him toward the end of spring training. Threw about 80 pitches in his game last week. Still looks like he and Baez should join Elsinore around the same time, maybe next week at some point.

Quote from Commie on April 16, 2018, 6:02 pmErik Johnson sighting! He pitched an inning in relief today for San Antonio. One K, otherwise zeros.
If he can get stretched out and is truly healthy, he could be a nice depth piece to have available should a rash of injuries hit. He does have a decent number of MLB starts to his credit if I recall correctly.

4 for 5 and 6 rbi with 2 HR and 2 Doubles.
Not bad for a guy who can’t hit!
