Quote from Randy Manese on December 9, 2025, 8:31 amEguy used to be a better prospect than Castanon but has regressed and is now a free agent. Don't think we'll see Castanon in a major league uniform any time soon.

Quote from Randy Manese on December 9, 2025, 8:38 amI liked what I saw of Tucker Musgrove in Lake Elsinore in 2025 and followed him closely in the AFL where he had good results. However, today's MF feature really has me intrigued. Undoubtedly, he'll start the season at Ft Wayne but could see an early promotion to San Antonio since he'll already be 24 when the season starts. If he can get his BB/9 IP down from 4.7, he might be one of the breakout pitchers in the system in 2026. Rule 5 eligible in December 2026, so we'll see how he develops under Eshelman, one of the better pitching coaches for the Padres.

Not too many in the system who become Rule 5 eligible for the first time in December, 2026 seem probable to be added to the 40 man. I guess a chance some currently eligible players ... who don't get taken this year could have a good enough season in 2026 to debate being added next off-season.
So, if Musgrove looks to have upside ... he does have a clear window to the 40 man.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on December 14, 2025, 7:12 pmLooks like we have signed a few guys to use up the leftover international money. Dawry Guerrero a switch hitting SS and relative of Vladdy reportedly signed for 250k. A 21 year old RHP out of Mexico named Carlos Medina reportedly signed for 150k. The MLB transactions page also shows us having signed 2 more RHPs in Nathanael Jacinto and Albieris Polanco.

As I recall the Padres considered moving Mears to pitching ... never got in a game but is it possible ... because of his strong arm ... his return may be as a RP?
At some point have to accept his bat is not there for the ML ... but then may just want some minor league depth.

Padres' Jose Miranda: Inks minors deal with Padres
RotowireThe Padres signed Miranda to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Aram Leighton of JustBaseball.com reports. Miranda showed promise at times while with the Twins, but he crashed out in 2025, going 6-for-36 with the big club and hitting only .195/.272/.296 across 371 plate appearances at Triple-A St. Paul. Still, the 27-year-old is a solid get on a minor-league contract, and there's a non-zero chance he pushes for playing time at first base in San Diego.- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- only 28ish and had two above ML seasons with MINN in 2022 and 2024 each over 400 AB. RHH could fit in as DH/1B/3B platoon. The next Sheets? These are the rebound shots that need to be taken.

Hopefully his fall was an anomaly we can fix because this guy was always a good hitter
