Quote from fenn68 on April 30, 2025, 8:22 amPatino goes on a rehab assignment to EP. Hopefully it goes well and he is back to EP in a month.
Once a big prospect ... seems to be liked by Preller ... long-shot but maybe he rebounds (actually gets better) post surgery and is a factor for the future. He is only 25. Perceived improvement has happened with Knehr after this return from TJ surgery as he rebuilds his profile as a potential ML RP ... similar for Patino?
Padres seem to building a deep list of potential ML RP in the minors ... should make it easier to let established (and expensive) current RP move on (or get traded) or some value as trade chips (although ML RP generally are not yielding big returns via trade). Should add the depth is in RHRP ... not LHRP.

Quote from Randy Manese on April 30, 2025, 10:24 amYes, numerous RH RP's making their mark in the minors and knocking on the door - don't underestimate Morgan, he could be special. On the lefty side, beyond Omar Cruz the only arm with some upside is Jackson Smeltz, who has had trouble staying on the field. Further back are Ryan Och and a number of other arms in the lower minors. Bullpens are typically RH dominant, so what we have coming up may not be so bad in the long run. Also, chance that Kyle Hart's role may be the bullpen, where he could be successful for 1 time through the batting order.

With the potential of Peralta opting out after 2025 and Matsui opting out after 2026 plus Morejon a FA after 2026 ... Padres could have a large void for LHRP. Just don't see them paying those three FA prices if they continue to produce as they currently are. Maybe Morejon since he is younger and is more of an end of game option.
Past Cruz ... are legit questions for LHRP. I will toss in a wild card if the SP for the Padres is settled ... converting Jagger Haynes to a RP (maybe a Peralta type role multi-inning). Sitting in AA should put him on track for 2027 at the latest.

Quote from Randy Manese on May 1, 2025, 8:17 amBooster SD,
With Cobb Hightower being activated on the LE roster, if you happen to have the time, would appreciate how Humberto Cruz and Kannon Kemp are coming back from arm injuries out in the desert. I usually try to look at consistent release point, delivery and fastball command. Sometimes hard to see from the stands but any input would be welcome. Thank you!

Some elite end of game prospects (future closers?) stacked in the system:
EP: Pena
SA: B. Rodriguez
FW: Neighbors
Plus some other strong RP options ... should make it easier to move on from Suarez, then Adam as they get expensive as FA.

Quote from Randy Manese on May 2, 2025, 9:16 pmPinales pitched another good game and should be moved to SA soon. Mendez also was very sharp but need to see more of him to see if he can consistently perform at today's level. Finally, Lizarraga had his best game of the year even though he lost - much better than previous efforts with greater command. HR ball was his undoing.

Quote from fenn68 on May 3, 2025, 7:08 amLong-shot prospect to follow ... Kasen Wells (21, 5'9 / 175) CF in LE. Drafted last year in the 16th round out of a JC in Texas. That does not suggest a top prospect. But,
in 24 games (95 AB) his slash line is 305/416/421 and the most impressive stats is 20 SB v only 1 CS.
Yes, it is in LE low A but a CF with that speed that even shows a glimpse of hit skill is "intriguing".

Quote from Jeremy Hill on May 3, 2025, 7:22 amManuel Castro is looking like another RP prospect to watch. 19 K's in 10.2 ip and he's only given up 1 hit. From what I've seen of him he's got a really good fastball that looks like it rises. He's dominating AA hitters.
