Than again,it may just be gas.
I don't think I've ever been so simultaneously nervous and excited about a potential free agent addition. I feel like it's going to come down to us or the Dodgers. If we land him it could completely change the scope of what we're able to do not only this off-season, but for several seasons beyond this one as well. If he goes to the Dodgers things could get scary. I think they're primed to make a big splash in free agency. If they get Sasaki too they could turn into even more of a juggernaut.

"It’ll be fascinating to see which team he chooses. I’m just not buying the narrative that it’ll be the Dodgers. Based on what I’m hearing, I think the Padres, Rays, Mets and Braves are all more likely to sign Sasaki than the Dodgers — and several other teams will be in the mix."

Quote from Jeremy Hill on November 19, 2024, 11:29 pmEduarniel Nunez is an intriguing minor league signing. He's been clocked as high as 102 on the gun and he's got a filthy curveball. He was absolutely dominant in AA last year. He walked a ton of guys and got hit a lot harder in AAA. It seems like he's got pretty serious control issues. There's huge upside if he can figure it out though.

Quote from ultratvfan on November 22, 2024, 12:54 pmThe Padres added three Minor League pitchers to their 40-man roster on Tuesday, ahead of the deadline to protect prospects from next month's Rule 5 Draft.
Right-handers Henry Baez and Ryan Bergert and lefty Omar Cruz had their contracts selected, bringing the San Diego 40-man roster to 37 players. Per MLB Pipeline, Baez checks in as the team's No. 7 overall prospect. Cruz ranks 22nd and Bergert 25th.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on December 5, 2024, 12:04 amWe signed Yonathan Perlaza to a minor league deal. He had a pretty strong year in the KBO. His minor league numbers were pretty solid before he went over too. It looks like he's a switch hitting corner outfielder with decent power. He seems a little more exciting than the typical depth signing at least.

Pretty sure Peller will pursue a number of adds (ML and AAA) before ST but today Perlaza and Gonzalas (signed to a minor league deal last month) represent the entire AAA OF in EP and since the Padres only have 12 position players on the 40 man both have a shot for the ML roster out of ST.
Perlaza, Gonzalas, Ornelas, Lockridge are currently four to fill three slots on the ML roster (assuming Wade and Rosario become the INF bench).

Quote from fenn68 on December 7, 2024, 7:52 amInterestingly the Padres have listed Perlaza as a 2B on the EP roster ... even thought he has played INF in the past he has been predominantly a corner OF in his career. Given the lack of EP OF ... expect him in the OF but maybe worked both INF/OF as a potential bench piece call-up with versatility.

Quote from Randy Manese on December 19, 2024, 7:00 pmWhich high ceiling pitcher are you most excited to see in 2025 - Kash Mayfield or Humberto Cruz? Which SP do you think will have the best year - Jagger Haynes, Henry Baez or Isaiah Lowe? Which SP will have a better pro debut between Kannon Kemp or Boston Bateman? Who will show future closer-worthy talent in 2025 - Bradgley Rodriguez or Tyson Neighbors? Don't sleep on Braden Nett or Jackson Smeltz - both are just a little bit further away.
Padres have a lot of young talented arms in the system and a lot of them will be right up the I-15 in Lake Elsinore. I think, as a group, the SP talent level will be one of the strongest the Padres have ever had in the lower minor leagues since the days of Paddack, Patino and Gore. However, it's a long way up from being a dominant pitcher in the A leagues so the contingent in San Antonio will be highly scrutinized. It's too bad our position players are badly lagging in talent (beyond De Vries and Salas) but there always is hope that one or more may break through.

Quote from brent wolff on December 19, 2024, 9:09 pmI'll play along:
- I'm equally excited to see both Mayfield & Cruz (sorry took the easy way out).
- Jagger Haynes. No inside info., just hoping Haynes breaks out. Hoping both Lowe & Baez continue to develop also.
- Bateman, another hunch/guess. Hoping Kemp shows well also.
- Neighbors, but hoping Rodriguez shows well also.
Go Pads!
