Espinosa SUSPENDED at EP.

PED’s???

I didn't see any actual reason given for Espinoza's suspension, but I'm guessing it's because he drilled a guy in the helmet after giving up back to back bombs in his last outing. He got ejected from the game for it. The suspension might be an additional punishment.

Some reports out that Merrill is going to AA. Should be a decent amount of post draft movement coming.

Anyone know what is up with Eguy Rosario?

He was sent on rehab on June 6 (then pulled off as his ankle still bothered him) ... reappeared on June 22 and played in games until July 5th then ??????????????????

For position players rehabs are maxed at 20 days (not games) ... so has Rosario re-injured himself justifying pulling him off the rehab (and stopping the clock on removing him for the 60 day IL)? Or are the Padres playing a game with his rehab/IL time to avoid a 40 man offset until maybe after the trade deadline?

Last year did not expect much for #6 Jakob Marsee … a CF from Central Michigan. However, in his first full season the Padres landed him in High A Fort Wayne … a reasonably aggressive placement for a college guy from a mid-level college program drafted that low.

He is delivering for a player who just turned 22 … BA not great but OBP and surprisingly SLG are impressive. Clearly elite speed for SB and CF defense. I do recall a note from last winter stating that other teams were interested in Marsee being “tossed in” in some deals.

Maybe he fades in the upper levels … but maybe not … and if nothing else he is making a case for a 4th OF in the future (OBP, speed, defense) … maybe more.

A prospect to watch.

Looks as though the Padres got it right with Salas. Remember he just turned 17 and got aggressively place in full season A ball. After a slow start he is dominating A ball, consider:

June (84 AB): 190/311/321 (632)

July (51 AB): 392/460/765 (1.321)

Normally I am cautious on over projecting prospects in A ball (and with small sample sizes) but in Salas’ case, I make an exception.

Would guess that the Padres may not want to move him to FW this year (maybe a token move right near the end of August) and it will be interesting to see how they handle him over the winter.

However, he may be one of those “special” prospects that the Padres may consider having him skip A+ and go directly to AA in 2024. If they go that route and Salas produces it is possible for a 2025 debut (clearly by 2026). Does that projection alter the Padres approach to upgrading the catcher position in the short run and make the Padres … in the short run … go with Campusano and maybe a 1-2 year filler and not seek any long term control add?

Salas and Merrill are exceeding my expectations in their development timeline … arriving likely sooner than I thought … future looks good when they are added to the core ML players who are on long term deals.

Fort Wayne is a LOT different a geographical location than Elsinore( or El Paso or San Antonio for that matter)

Those 3 locations are probably more similar to what these kids( those from abroad) are use to at home.

Bump in talent level aside, moving to Indiana is an adjustment( compared to Texas and California)

Happy to leave Salas in LE this year as well🤙

Keith Law put out a top 60 prospect list on The Athletic this morning. He's got Salas all the way up to #4. He's also got Merrill at #9 with Lesko, Snelling and Zavala as honorable mentions.

Thank you!!  I’ve been looking for his list but I’m not subscribed to the Athletic so I couldn’t see it.

Man that’s very encouraging.  Btw, where is Wood on the list?  I’m sure he’s way up there.
