Quote from MrPadre19 on June 23, 2023, 1:09 pmPersonally in 2025 I'd like to see our infield as:
3b Machado-SS Merrill-2B Cronenworth-1B Bogaerts
If I recall correctly Merrill is an above average defender at SS?

Quote from fenn68 on June 26, 2023, 8:08 amMLBPipeline just updated its Top 100 (not the individual teams). Padre prospects on the list:
12 … Merrill
53 … Salas (up 30 positions)
69 … Lesko
88 … Snelling
———————-
Just to note, checked for former Padre prospects who departed via trade, and only 2:
6 … Wood
99 … Hassell (down 58 positions as concerns on his hitting / power are coming into question).
given the struggles of Abrams and Gore in MLB (but young and still early in development) … the net on the Soto trade seems pro-Padres given Soto’s performance and the playoff spot in 2022.

Quote from fenn68 on June 26, 2023, 8:13 amDoes anyone know of MLBPipeline does a team Top 30 update at some point mid-season? IF they do is it more than layering in draft picks?
Looking at the current Padres list … should be a significant shake-up after the first 6 or so.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on June 26, 2023, 5:37 pmLooks like they're starting to promote some prospects. I saw a report that Snelling is expected to move up soon too.

Oswaldo Linares, Braedon Karpathios and Wilton Castillo have been promoted from the ACL to @Storm_Baseball.
Recent MLFA Blake Cederlind heads to @missionsmilb.
Infielder Nerwilian Cedeño and big league LHRP Tom Cosgrove start rehab assignments in AZ tonight.
Expect more tomorrow.— MadFriars (@madfriars) June 26, 2023

Quote from Randy Manese on June 29, 2023, 12:28 pmWith Snelling (19 years old all season) and Krob (23 going on 24)) joining Iriarte (21 all season), Mazur (22 all season), Lizarraga (19 all season) and Bergert (23 all season) at Ft. Wayne this may be the best rotation the Padres have ever put together on a minor league team. With a little help from the bullpen, this team could dominate the Midwest League in the second half. Looking forward to other pitchers coming off injury and continuing to slowly come back from TJ surgery to really solidify the Padres' future on the mound. Don't think the venue will be too big for Snelling - unusual composure for a young pitcher and something Iriarte should take note of and emulate even though he is older than Snelling. Mazur and Krob, if the latter does well at Ft. Wayne, could make the jump to San Antonio later in the year.

Quote from Randy Manese on June 29, 2023, 12:42 pmA couple of names are emerging from the Dominican Summer League on the position player side for the Padres Gold squad. Ismael Javier, in his first year, continues to rake and and play a decent shortstop. Fell a HR short of the cycle today, going 4-5, and now hitting .354 with a 1065 OPS. Oliver Carrillo, in his second year in the DSL, continue to be a HR machine; currently hitting .326 with a 1426 OPS. He has 7 HRs in 46 AB (15.2% rate) and more BBs than K's (20 to 19, 27.8 to 20.4%), which are improvements over last year. Lastly, in his 3rd year in the DSL Hugo Sanchez has picked up where he left off in 2022 after a dismal 2021. Hitting .326 with a 1203 OPS; plays all over the diamond and has 20 BB to only 12 K's and a 556 OBP! Not much to report on pitching but Johan Moreno is an early name to keep track of.

Quote from Jeremy Hill on June 30, 2023, 9:55 amWhoever was running the MadFriars Twitter account certainly seemed to be implying that they were doing it to have him closer to Cincinnati in case they needed him to fill-in for Darvish or Wacha. It seems like it didn't actually happen though, so who knows.

I thought of that but usually they just have the player join the ML team (not added to the roster / activated) and have him sit on the bench. Don’t know what re-assigning accomplishes if that insurance was the objective.
