Only 4 hits allowed in his 10 IP so far....but NINE bb's.

I'm not a big Krob fan at present, particularly when I saw that pickoff attempt at 2nd base sail several feet over the infielder's extended glove and all the way back to the center field wall, allowing runners on 3rd and 2nd base to score. Certainly needs to show more focus/control. The guy that has been scary is Isaiah Lowe, another pitcher that's built like a linebacker and really comes at you with all of his stuff - was taken in the 11th round, one round before Krob. I like him a lot more than Krob but the LE pitching staff does have a lot of good arms and the coach there is using them well.
By the way, noted that Mazur was put on the developmental list by Ft. Wayne. In a way, it doesn't surprise me because even though he's done okay in his first two starts, he hasn't been dominant and his pitches don't see to have that crispness/movement you need for greater success. This "time off" will give him an opportunity to work on his mechanics and be in a better place when he comes back. He has been very poised and is probably just a tweak or so away from meeting the Padres' expectations.
Will be in San Antonio and then El Paso starting Tuesday, so might catch Pomeranz' rehab appearance there if he's moved from Lake Elsinore.

Is Salas still 16? He does not look out of place with the rest of these young men....and he's still a kid!
Looking forward to seeing him in SD in the not too distant future.

Padres: Nathan Martorella, 1B (No. 23)
College first basemen have to establish they can hit early in their careers or else risk getting lost in the shuffle. So far, so good for the 2022 fifth-rounder out of Cal. Martorella has walked more (10) than he’s struck out (eight) through 16 games with High-A Fort Wayne, and seven of his 15 hits have gone for extra bases, resulting in a .518 slugging percentage, .897 OPS and 160 wRC+. That’s even better considering Midwest League bats usually take a while to warm up from the chillier early weeks of April.

We could be seeing the end of Pedro Avila in EP (and maybe the organization).
For the 5th strait start he got hammered. 5 starts / 19 innings with ER in order 5-5-6-5-6 … is carrying a 12.36 ERA. I don’t care if it is the PCL … that is just bad. At 26 has to be on the bubble of being released or demoted to AA or just sent to extended ST to work on ????

For the 1st time (ever?) the Padres will have two teams in the Dominican Summer League in 2023 - the DSL Brown and the DSL Gold. It looks like almost everyone they signed recently and holdovers from last year are currently assigned to the Brown team, but that should sort itself out as the start of the season approaches. With the minor league limits going down to 160 stateside and no such limit overseas it makes sense to develop these very young players at the lower level before they are brought up. Still expect some of them to make the ACL roster but at least start out in the DSL before the ACL opens - that's a gap of about 3 weeks.
