Chance to show in their first full season and still at a young age. I am ready for a surprise star to emerge.
Speaking of surprise stars … always follow position player conversions to RP and sometimes they work (eg Hoffman) but usually don’t. This year following Justin Lopez who failed as a SS (could not hit) but last season the Padres started his conversion to a RP. Had the strong arm at SS … will it carry in in the pen? Could have a chance to begin the season in LE.
I still can't believe we got Salinas/Montessino AND Zavala in the same class...
I want to see Salas get a few games in with the MLB club in ST..
Hopefully SP Leija makes it to LE at some point.. exited to see Snelling there too.. not sure where Henry Williams and Mazur start but Mazur at least could pitch at 2 or 3 levels with his makeup (if he shows well) in 2023.. Many think 2024 is his ETA..

King Jr catcher could be in LE as well.. I can see King Jr/Salas C and Salas DH when King Jr C..

Not necessarily true, Preller finds gems in the amateur draft as well. Scouting is still scouting, whether it is in the US or International.

Haven't been able to find the bonus Ruben Salinas signed for but he signed in November 2019. Zavala (1.2M signing bonus) and Montesino (1.0M) signed in January 2021, while Lizarraga (1.0M) signed in March 2021.
Top bonuses in the 2022 class were Jarlin Susana (1.7M), Yendry Rojas (1.3M) and Maikol Munoz (900K). The 2022 crop did especially well in the Dominican last year and Susana was so well (he pitched in the ACL not the DSL) he was included in the Soto trade. Have to put their performances in context to the competition but guys like Rosman Verdugo, Juan Murillo, Aldo Leija, Oliver Carrillo, Oliver Cedeno, Braian Salazar, Estuar Suero and Kashon Conliffe all showed potential although some were injured and others were so young that they will still need to develop over time.
If you recall, after the Padres all-in international signings in 2016, they were limited to 300K or less as signing bonuses for international prospects for the next 2 years. Still in 2017, they signed Moises Lugo, Brandon Valenzuela and Alan Mundo while in 2018 they signed Albert Fabian, Jairo Iriarte and Nerwilian Cedeno! All of these guys are expected to be solid contributors to the Padres system in 2023. The Preller scouting team does know its stuff!

Lesko pumping 97 as a HS Jr is beyond comprehension .. hope rehab goes 💯 and he gets the reg +2mph post TJ most do, plus his normal body maturing ++adds... Jake DeGroom 2.0 like .

Roughly 60% of the top 100 from 2018 have virtually zero WAR. Baseball is not only tough to play, it's very tough to project who can actually play at the major league level.
